Hello everyone,

What is the book on Gettysbug that best describes the uniforms, armaments and equipment worn by such and such a unit during this battle.

Thank you.

In the absence of any other offers.
I would personally nominate Don Troiani's CIVIL War. 0811727157
Lots of Gettysburg pictures, each showing various units.
Superb (in my opinion).
If it is not quite what you wanted then that is OK.

Paskai,

Same response as to one of your other posts:

Mark Adkin's "The Gettysburg Companion"

Lots of uniform illustrations. Best single source book

That book may be really good but from what I am seeing online is costs over $100. USD Is it really worth it to pay that much?

Joe,

In my opinion, yes. It has probably 5 to 7 books worth of information. If Gettysburg is your target, along with general ACW information its the best one source book.

I've spent thousands of dollars for a wall full of ACW books and find it still one of my top favorite books. I got it for $60 USD brand new, but that is another story.

We'll see when it's time.

Kim, I did some checking last evening and found out that I do have that book. It is very nice. I bought it many years ago and know that I didn't pay even the $60 USD that you paid.

Hi Paskal,
As far as arms go, the best sources I am aware of are -

'Ready … Aim … Fire": Small Arms Ammunition in the Battle of Gettysburg" by Dean Thomas.

"Regimental Strengths at Gettysburg" by Busey and Martin

I have Busey and Martin's book. The information is mind-bogglingly complete for the Union formations (both inf and cav), but nothing for the "boys in grey" re arms.

I do not have "The Gettysburg Companion", hence cannot help there.

Very well all of that.
