Again, if the USA/NATO ceases to support Ukraine against Russia's war of aggression. That would prove to be a big mistake.

I'm VERY afraid about future USA Support… it would be another big mistake…is going to cause a lot of misery in many people and countries… it may even light the flame of another world conflict…

Strategic Failure: The Biden Administration and Ukraine

Yes, the debacle in A'stan only made it very clear that the leadership in the USA, i.e. the Biden Admin did not have the right stuff. So again, our enemies took full advantage of this. Putin saw the US foot dragging with sending all the support Ukraine needed. Again, for fear of escalation and being very risk adverse.

Putin seeing the A'stan debacle planned by the elected and appointed officials. Who didn't listen to the professionals, i.e. their Military and Intel agencies. Putin sent his forces across the Ukrainian border, in very large numbers. Know he had little fear of the US "CinC".

Iran saw and did similar. E.g. 7 Oct/Hamas, the Houthis, etc. Again, by taking advantage of the US civilian leadership's qualities, etc. Plus, the US leaders gave Iran millions of dollars[or is it billions ?]. As the US leaders thought they could show the USA's genericity, etc. And to make friends with Iran. As the same leaders trusted the Taliban. But as has been made so very clear … You can't make a deal with islamic terrorists, jihadis, fundamentalist, radical religious fanatics.

Then Xi seeing the same started saber rattling about take back Taiwan.

As we can see from other examples in history. Failure of leadership to deal acceptably with predators only costs more deaths and even more $. USD… Again, those in the USA that have all this blood on their hands will get away it … No punitive actions, etc. will ever come about. I hope they sleep well with all the blood that is because of their poor decisions, etc.

The M109 is pretty old per se. Doing another upgrade may not be worth it. However, I do think the German Pz 2000, could be a good replacement.

Towed FA in fast mobile modern warfare does have its disadvantages. But Light units still need FA support. I don't think an SPFA will be light enough to actually work. For that type of unit. As in many cases once the Infantry is on the ground, they are mostly walking. Been there … done that…

Putin seeing the A'stan debacle planned by the elected and appointed officials. Who didn't listen to the professionals, i.e. their Military and Intel agencies. Putin sent his forces across the Ukrainian border, in very large numbers. Know he had little fear of the US "CinC".

AND -- Biden basically INVITED Russian invasion! During a press conference before the invasion, Bidem stated:

Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Biden said that he predicts President Vladimir Putin will invade Ukraine and that NATO needs to be in agreement on a response.

"I think what you're going to see is that Russia will be held accountable if it invades, and it depends on what it does," Biden said.

"It's one thing if it's a minor incursion and we [NATO] end up having to fight about what to do and not to do."

And then Harris was dispatched to speak with NATO allies and promised heavy sanctions if Russia did anything. How scary! Sanctions, ya mean like the ones the Biden-Harris Admin removed from Iran and others directly responsible for killing Americans??

So Putin must have thought -- OK, they didn't have the stones to either win in Astan or withdraw competently, they have promised toothless sanction and now Biden says he won't react to a "minor" incursion -- game on!

I think Putin's attempt to do a focused blitzkrieg aimed at taking Kyiv WAS his "minor incursion." He really thought he could brush aside any Ukrainian defenses and be in the capitol in a few days, before the US and the West could do anything about it -- and since it wasn't a general offensives, and he's already sitting in Kyiv the US would blather a lot and do nothing.

And it ALMOST WORKED! Except one thing nobody thought of -- Zelinsky's response was not what most expected, give him credit for that. Remember the Biden Admins FIRST reaction was to condemn Russian actions and the OFFER ZELINSKY A SAFE EXILE! Yes, Team Biden was quick to offer a golden parachute but Zelinsky said "The fight is here, I need ammunition, not a ride."

And having destroyed deterrence and sparked a war between Russia and Ukraine with poor diplomacy and a weak posture, when Zelinsky and Putin did talk about a Cease Fire agreement early in the conflict, brokered by Turkey an Israel, the Biden Admin killed the peace deal…

Yes, the A'stan debacle was the spark that let Putin see. The US leaders didn't have the right stuff. The same occurred with all the crisis Iran has caused with support of 07 Oct., the Houthis and Hezbollah. Even with 2 Carrier Grps in th region. They knew the US would do little to nothing. As we see our enemies were not wrong. And add Xi's saber rattling about Taiwan in the PTO … he knows the CCP is safe.

Tortorella Supporting Member of TMP15 Sep 2024 8:55 p.m. PST

We keep repeating this, but I still do not agree…

Russia has not expanded the war, no Taiwan invasion, ME war is not much changed. Maybe Xi and Putin are not such great leaders either. Our military is better, a lot better, than theirs. Putin now has a massive NATO border to defend, against, the last thing he wanted. The US gave him no pretext to invade..he owns his mess. We did not spark a war or wreck the peace. Putin's war crimes torpedoed a deal and he has wrecked much of his army. Xi has internal issues, economy, corruption, cannot project enough force to take Taiwan.

Putin forgot that Afghanistan was a major mess for the Soviets and he took the US withdrawal as a sign to go to war with Ukraine? This still does not add up for me.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP16 Sep 2024 6:29 p.m. PST

We keep repeating this, but I still do not agree…
Many former and current officers, makes in clear based on what we learned from history, etc. If Putin saw the withdrawal as not a "Dunkirk" 2.0. But observe a much better planned op and not a rush to get out of A'stan. He may have thought twice about invading Ukraine.

Plus it took a lot of time for the Russians to line up along the Ukraine's border. Before their offensive. If he saw the US POTUS as stronger more competent leader, he may have not invaded if the US leading NATO into a massive flood of more weapons systems, etc. That the Russians would have to deal if they did invade …

The passed record of the POTUS made it clear, to our enemies, he had been wrong on many, many of his geopolitical/military decisions for almost 50 years. Putin knew this … then decided to invade. Putin overestimated his forces capabilities and underestimated the Ukraine's Force's abilities to defend their homeland. I think Putin and his GENs and Intel agencies, etc. forgot the military adage – "Know your Foe" … Putin didn't …

Sun Tzu said something similar, but I forgot the way he worded it. I wonder if Putin et al read and studied the ancient Chinese "Master of War" … I'm betting – NO …
