There's a hobby store in Sacramento I have been going to for something like 45 years, ever since it opened when I was in high school in the late 70s.
For the last 30 years or so, I have lived about 2+ hours away, but still dropped by when I could. Usually 2-3 times a year.
Jessica, the proprietress, always remembers me by name, and even recognizes my voice on the phone. She also remembers enough details about my life to engage in small talk. Like today, when she asked if I had been to the airport, as that is usually when I am in town.
But, since it looks like I am bailing on California, I am not sure I will ever make it back again, so I stopped in to say goodbye. An emotional moment for a sentimental old fool.

Good Bye Viking Hobby. Live long & prosper.

I hope the business is doing well. It's great that you two have that connection.

The world is a better place because of stores, and people like that who run them.

And the older I get the more appreciation there is for good customer service.

Too few of them anymore. Says a lot that they are still in business after 40+ years.

It's hard to beat service like that.

Oh no say it ain't so!

I started going there 25 years ago. They should have some good close out deals.

You misunderstood
Viking appears to be doing fine,
I am just moving away

You may have solved your own problem.

Just give them a ring once in a while. Maybe place an order. Ask what in new or what may be of interest to you if they deal second hand.

From the op it sounds like it's the conversation you miss the most. It's still at the end of the line, unlike the store, thankfully.

Thanks. For once I'm glad I was wrong.

Agree – good to see a store doing well and maybe like the H man said order something every now and then

I would, except they are old fashioned. They don't do mail order. LOL

Glad to hear a business in CA is still doing well … Many are not or have left. E.g. Tesla …
