Of course I talk of the Warlord games time vortex. The one that hasn't been updated in years. Last news 2019.

Will the new doctor announcement get them all fired up to, you know, actually have some doctor who news and new release info, or is it time they did the humane thing and put it down?

Personally I hope the licence ends and someone else can pick it up who will actually do something with it, especially where the classic series is concerned.

Ok.

So where did it all go wrong?

Over reliance on fans of the modern tats loyalty. Check.

Lack of attention to the classic series, which possibly has more loyal and cashed up fans. Check.

Release order you can't comprehend. Tetraps! Mixing modern doctors no one wants with classic. No classic versions if they have modern examples, except to some extent Cybermen, so on. Check

So what can be done for WL to turn this around?

Ignore the modern tat for a start. Ok maybe give the new guy a box with a couple of companions to shut people up, then get on with things.

Have multi part plastic 1st Daleks, then have occasional new boxes released with that same sprue plus some plastic/metal/resin replacement/additional parts for a particular story. The bumper, skirt, slats, dome, eye and arms could be separate parts to accommodate this. Generally they all had the same skirts/bumps, or enough for minis. Bumpers changed, slats, arms so on. It would be a cheap way to get all the Daleks done.

Maybe offer a story box and then individuals. The box could come with some resin or even vac formed and card scenery.

I may add more waffle later…

try a scale that matches with my existing dr who forces and I'd buy heaps. However, I'm not discarding a small horde of painted figures just to do a larger scale even if the sculpts look pretty. I suspect I'm not alone in this.

They went down the wrong path from the start with a bad set of rules, an odd scale that doesn't match anything else, and subpar sculpts. Based on the lack of releases in recent years the game appears to have been abandoned by Warlord and they are just waiting for the licence to expire.

I think the vortex has effectively closed, hasn't it, if there have been no new products for ages. Warlord have moved on to the next big things.
I got the plastic Daleks and Cybermen, as I could make them work with 28mm figures I already had. They are excellent sets.

As for everything else-

A deliberate change in scale intended to separate you from your existing collection-which backfires.
Sculpting quality; faces are very soft and shallow in detail making it difficult to paint. I base this on seeing online reviews, and painting Missy from the Cybermen box.
Trying to tie you into their game like it or not by selling add-ons in expensive boxes of three, with cards.
At times a weird choice of releases. I doubt anyone was crying out for Tetraps and Dr Mysterio.
I doubt the issue was "not enough classic series" because they are certainly there there in the range.
Id have liked a plastic set of classic era Daleks.

Its not going to happen, and I hope someone else is in due course allowed to have a go at this.

Yep. All very valid.

I agree with the face issue. It's the same with many modern figs.

Basically they are programmed in a computer, not actually sculpted in real life. Bad enough, but some people decide it a good idea to do them real proportions. You end up with figures that look like real people scaled down, but you can't paint them. They are horrible any you have to actually paint details on that would already be there on a traditional sculpt just to make them look any good.

Considering WL aren't here to inform us of all the exciting new products they are planning, just around the corner, I feel we may be correct.

For those who don't know, a chap from WL popped in a (long) while back to reassure us and tell us of their future plans. I don't think he lied, but there wasn't much released afterwards, now nothing.
