Pretty good analysis why the Ukrainian artillery has been so effective.

Fascinating.

Cant wait till the books about this war start to come out revealing the actual truth of what has happened, such as this report.

That's more about why it's timely, but not why it is so uncannily accurate.

It's accurate because they're using a GIS (Geographical Information System)-based fire direction system that uses aerial and satellite photos as a primary layer. Particularly when you're using a drone (so that your view is from above) you can locate targets with 2 meter accuracy. Since the guns can determine their position with similar accuracy, the most important elements of system inaccuracy are removed. Surveying gun positions has long been time consuming and easy to mess up. Now, they're using systems that allow tremendous accuracy with little skill. Similarly, aerial photos show far more detail than topographical maps, so even when observing on the ground it's possible to relate target positions to landmarks much more easily.

Yep, that would certainly be very accurate ..

There is a more complete discussion of these technologies and tactics in this video, for those who know German:

Modern tech in many cases is makes what we had in the Cold War almost "primitive". It makes modern warfare even more deadly in many cases.

'Kropyva': Ukrainian Artillery Application by Adrien Fontanellaz (English translation). Jun 10.

"Communication between the system elements is by satellite transmission. Whilst in military parlance such system is defined an Automatic Tactical Management System (ATMS), Kropyva functions in other words as a form of Uber for artillery and has made it possible to drastically increase its reaction time while reducing its vulnerability. The average time required to deploy a howitzer battery has been reduced by a factor of 5 — to three minutes -; the time required to engage an unplanned target by a factor of 3, to one minute; while the time required to open counter-battery fire has been divided by 10, down to 30 seconds. In a nutshell, and combined with the systematic use of drones for fire correction, Kropyva has increased the effectiveness of Ukrainian artillery by an order of magnitude, acting as a force multiplier."

One of the included vids confirms the shortage of 152mm ammo.
