Thanks for the link. I found both the video and the associated material to be highly interesting and informative, especially the concept of "truth decay" which I had not previously read of.

He missed a few other reasons that overstating threats are a problem:
We spend more resources fending off a threat than are needed and those resources are not available to fight other, just as legitimate threats.
Overstating a threat to get people to change their behavior, undermines their credibility for the next threat.
But yeah, interesting video.
