If you're looking at the period 1973 to 1993 then the 1 BDE (1st Task Force until about '82) structure was:

2 CAV REGT. Two squadrons with M113 variants, ASLAV came in about '93.

1 Field Engineer Regiment, reduced to 1 Field Squadron in about 1980, then later (early 90's?) brought up to battalion strength as 1 Combat Engineer Regiment.

8/12 Medium REGT. Three batteries. One field battery with M2A2 until 91, when it got L118/119, two medium batteries with 5.5" until 87, M198 after and one medium battery disbanded in '87. 6 tubes per battery at the time.

3RAR- light infantry until '82, parachute after that. HQ (with Recce PL and sniper section, when raised), 3 X rifle companies, admin company and support company (mortars, SFMG, ASSLT PNR, Anti-Armoured (AARMD) Platoons ).

5/7 RAR infantry until '81, mech after that with M-113A2 fitted with T-50 turret (except the RSM's car). HQ with Recce PL and sniper section, 3 X mech companies, admin company and support company (mortars, SFMG, ASSLT PNR, Anti-Armoured PL).

Various combat service support units, like 101 Field Workshops. 1 Armoured Regiment was not part of 1 BDE until about '84. HQ squadron and three, later two, tank squadrons with Leopard AS1 (Leo 1A3 with some modifications).

The M40A1 106mm RCL mounted on SWB Landrovers ("gun cars") were with the AARMD PL. I can't remember what the paper strength was- either six or eight tubes- but I don't remember seeing more than four gun cars in any battalion- even in 1RAR and 2/4RAR, which were at or above paper strength for a short while in the early 80's. That created a log jam for those of us that wanted a slot in AARMD PL.

Artillery was towed?

Yes, mate. The gunnies have been asking for SPA since about 1943. There's a rumour that they may be getting some soon, but the government thinks it's wise not to rush into things.

BTW, if you want paper strengths then let me know. In '83 the regulars and reserves were working on peacetime establishments, except in 3 Brigade, where all the units were theoretically at or over full strength. But 3 BDE was a light infantry BDE, with just one squadron (US company) of APC (B SQN, 3/4 CAV REGT) and a field artillery regiment (three batteries of M2A2). There was also a squadron (162 SQN) of Kiowa recce choppers that were semi-attached.

2nd Cavalry. Are they solely Mechanised ie, M113 (LRV) and M113 (MRV), or are there infantry in these M113's?

2 CAV had Assault Troopers 89-92 when I was posted there. They call them CAV Scouts now
