Teddy Roosevelt Jr. was Terry Allen's XO with the First Division in Tunisia and Sicily. The First had a good reputation in combat, Allen and Roosevelt were getting good press and Allen had won the respect of British general Alexander. Yet the two managed to tick off Eisenhower, Patton and Bradley and were relieved before the Sicily campaign ended. Supposedly Eisenhower, Patton and Bradley all had problems with Allen and Roosevelt's casual attitude towards discipline. With Patton it is possible there was an element of jealousy involved. Allen later was given command of the 104th Division which he led in NW Europe. Roosevelt was XO of the 4th Division and was slated to command the 90th Division when he died. |
