What it says on the lid.

I'm wanting to create two card decks, one entirely Union, one entirely Confederate.

I'm thinking period color plates, lithographs, engravings— the sort of thing published at the time.

My attempts at search engine searches haven't proved helpful, so I thought I'd ask here.

Check National archive for Harpers weekly or Battles and Leader series of article from 1880's.

Parz, try CivilWarTalk.com might have something there. Let me think. I've sold about half my Civil War books. But might be something there. Let you know if I think of something.

Old collectable card game "Dixie"? Look at Currier and Ives illustrated ACW,

😂🤣 Not even close. 🙂 I think I had close to 135 books on the Civil War. I still have one back case full…. Yet.

The only books I am not selling are my WW2 books that are signed by the guys who wrote them or fought in them. Also "We were soldiers once and young", that General Moore signed for me and "Black Hawk Down" signed by the Air Force Para Rescue ranger who took part. He spoke at WPAFB. Those mean something to me.

Take care

Parz you ever think about having each card have a picture of a Union or Confederate officers Autograph on it. I have 4 left I could send pictures to you of, also you could go to Autograph sites to get a bunch. Also what about original photo images? Tintype or Ambrotype. I have some I could take pictures of and send to you, plus many out on the web. Just some ideas.

BATTLES AND LEADERS has 100s of drawings, all in public domain.

Parz, I have the 4 book set I am selling, if interested in owning them. Price is cheap.

Battles and Leaders looks ideal. Does anyone know a source for downloadable scans of the art? Again my search-fu is proving lacking.

Thanks, all!

Sorry I don't. Also sorry I was wrong, those books sold in my last sale.

I discovered, in my search for photos of Colonels and Generals at Gettysburg, some have no known photo. You could always photograph your own painted minis and use them. Lots of modern artists have great paintings of ACW Colonels and Generals. Problem is that w/o their express permission, you can't copy those images. Best to take photos of your minis for the cards.

Look for copies of Harpers Weekly on the Web. Almost all had drawings. For instance I have a autograph of General John Milton Brannon which also had a cut drawing of him during the War. Pretty sure from Harpers. Brannon is probably pretty obscure to a lot. Brevet Major General 14th Corp Army of the Cumberland. He was Division commander for the 35 OVI at Chickamauga.

Type "Harpers Weekly Civil War" on the web and see what you get.

Also look for the old 'cigarette' photograph cards of Civil War personalities (they were like the baseball cards of the era.) I know they exist because I found a small collection of them while going through family papers… ;-)
