It has been a very, very, very long time since I played OTR. I have pulled the rules out recently with the idea of trying a game. However I can't remember how I interpreted the "45 right" and "45 left" morale results. I think I used to wheel 45 degrees then move in that direction.

Is that right?

That's the way I always played it.

Same way here. Still my favourite ACW game.

I always interpreted it to be a forward oblique movement. More of a veering off course than a wheel.

Here's what the rules state on page 25:

45 Right/Left: The unit makes a full move at a 45 degree angle to its right/left (it must change facing as an oblique move is too shallow of an angle). All normal movement rules apply.

So it is not an oblique movement which is a 1" to side for every 3" forward movement (see page 14).

Now whether it could be a wheel of 45 degrees (see page 15) or a "drift" I guess is up to the game master.

P.S. All page numbers are from 2014 edition published by Scale Creep Miniatures.

Ah, yes. I thought the rule was silly and modified it.

I have both the original printed OTR and the Scale Creep Miniatures re-issue. The problem I have had interpreting the Scale Creep Miniatures words is that I can not find "change facing" defined anywhere in the rules. "Wheeling" however is defined on p15, and I guess wheeling changes facing.

BTW the original wording reads: "unit takes a full move 45 (degrees) right of its facing".
