Hi, I never played Napoleonics at a large scale except for Command & Colors Napoleonics with 15mm figs. I play Rebels & Patriots and other skirmish systems with Old Glorys 28mm figures single based on 1 inch metal washes.

My idea was to also use those figures on magnetized bases for bigger scale battle systems like Black Powder and/or Sharp Practice. So i bought Black Powder Waterloo starter set and I found that the 40mm by 40mm included in the box that are recommended are too small to fit 2x2 figs of my 1 inch bases on them, I will need to go to at least 50mm by 50mm. Is this a big deal? will it affect game play, is it ok to base the BP figures in larger bases than recommended? Thanks.

As long as you have the same size bases on both sides, should not be an issue

I have only played a few BP games, but my impression is the same as above. Keep everyone the same and you should be fine.

Yeah, I understand that concept of similarity but my concern is if I will be able or not to play in the future with other wargamers, or in a club with players who have smaller sizes like the recommended by Warlords.

The rules mention using bases for shooting angles.

MrZorro, if the other players you know use the 40mm bases, maybe you could make a bunch of 2" sabot bases for them to use when playing against you?

I think the Black Powder family of rules are completely agnostic on base sizes. There are suggestions for frontages of small/standard/large units, but I play ECW games with my infantry 4 figures on 40x 40mm bases and my opponent has 6 on 60mm x 40mm. We just agree on a frontage for a standard unit and play the game. Think it is the same for BP Napoleonics, although not played that for years.

Ok. In thar case, I think providing sabot bases for your opponents might be the way to go.

Most rules in the shooting times after 1500 don't care even if armies are based different. I would say a difference of 25% (units in line) is irrelevant.

Well, those are good news and alternatives, thanks for your advise. I ll go ahead and base them at 50mm front x 40mm depth. I will show pictures when I have them ready.
