They point out that: 1. He never featured any mother/matriarch characters 2. He did feature heroic/pilot characters, similar to his older brother who died in the war |

I was obsessed with the various Anderson series as a child in the 60's, starting with Four Feather Falls and Supercar. It's true when you think about it-plenty of fathers, commanders and colonels [or combinations thereof] but no visible mothers. Without knowing about his history, I'd just have assumed it was because they were, primarily, boys'TV programmes with the sort of characters the boys identified with-though there are plenty of supporting female characters. Considering how much he brought to so many childhood imaginations, it's sad to hear that there was a big hole in his own childhood. |

Ditto progs of the 60's! Lady Penelope was a bit too 'gentille' for me… and he wasn't alone in his abuse, as a fourth child/ second family life wasn't that great either… |
