Optio doesn't have comprehensive army lists of its own, though it does have a few. The system cheats by using lists of other rulesets, taking the figure bases exactly as they are and making a few rules tweaks to fit them into the Optio system. The player of course must own the ruleset's army list book to begin with.

Here is a replay of Issus, using DBA's Alexandrine Macedonian and Late Achaemenid Persian lists. The major difference between 'regular' Optio and Optio using DBA armies is that the battlefield squares are halved in size, and can now accommodate only one or two bases. Each army has one general and two commanders, all units (Command Groups) are average and the troop classifications follow those of DBA, with customised combat tables to suite those classifications. It works well. Enjoy!
