Which Late Roman (Not Byzantine) generals have the best and most detailed books about their campaigns?

I can recommend the books by Ian Hughes, which cover a large part of the Late Roman period.

Of the following titles, Constantius III Rome's Lost Hope, Aetius Attila's Nemesis, Stilicho The Vandal Who Saved Rome, Imperial Brothers Valentinian and Valens, A Military Life of Constantine the Great, Gaiseric The Vandal Who Sacked Rome, Patricians and Emperors The last Rulers of the Western Roman Empire, I have six in the collection.

Osprey covers a few of the better known campaigns/battles – Adrianpole (Valens). Others relate to Aetius, Constantine the Great, Julian. Simon McDowell's books on the Goths and Franks cover Valens and Julian also. Simon's site has a number of scenarios for these and other battles.

The history of Ammianus Marcellinus. He covered about 25 years of the 4th century in detail. The campaigns of Constantius and Julian up to the death of Valens.

Ian Hughes biographies are helpful resources but his writing style is a bit challenging to get through.
