Dr. B,
your Russians are great. Looks like you definitely have
enough 1st REP and ALN for a good fight. Great job
on the Algerian War figures. As you mentioned that the
other paras wore the bigeard cap, do you have a source
for those. I am really enjoying your blog. Again, the
camo on the Legionnaires was over the top. Have a good
week and as always thanks for sharing.

Thanks Sam
I'd love to do some paras with the Bigeard cap. I think Liberation do some in their Indo China range but they're a "challenging" manufacturer to buy from. I have toyed with buying more Elhiem and seeing if I can get some more of the capped USMC raiders heads from Battlezone.
Yes I've got enough figures now, just need to work on some terrain and a good scenario.
All the best

Andy,
You probably have already read it, but years ago there was
a movie called Lost Command with Anthony Quinn and Alain
DeLon(sp?).It was based on Jean de Larteguy's novel THE
CENTURIONS. There was a later paperback release of the same novel but titled Lost Command like the movie. Follows paras release from Viet prison camps
after Dien Bien Phu and into the war in Algeria. Supposedly
based on Gen.Bigeard. Larteguy also did a follow up called
THE PRAETORIANS. Not sure if either is still in print. Both
editions I have are in English. The movie is still available.

Another movie, novel based is Battle for Algiers, following
the controversial actions by Jacques Massu and his paras.. Think the book was by the same title. Movie still available
as well.

So, when your new glasses arrive, couple of new reading
possibilities. Remembering the movies and the hills, it
will be interesting seeing how you work your terrain. Mideastern buildings are readily available for urban
fighting. I think this war was the first real COIN(counter insurgence) style warfare and largest helicopter usage to that date.

Both movies are worth getting depending on current costs.
Lost Command is in color, Algiers in black in white. Sorry
if all this is old news for you.

best always,

Sam

Thanks Sam for reminding me of Lost Command. I need to have a watch of that again. Great minds I finally got my own copy of The Centurions last month. Hahhaha yes with the new specs I look forward to reading it.
All the best

Talk about a niche war! Great job on those figs. Looking forward to an AAR when you get that far.

Thanks 😊. It certainly is a niche war within a niche hobby! I'm working towards some games with an AAR to follow.

Elhiem do an impressive range of separate heads, including what looks like a Bigeard, link HED91

Thanks for the "heads up". I've not checked their site for awhile I'll take a look.
