The van Papendrecht painting is very interesting: Billy-Boy appears to be sporting petticoat breeches – the ribbons of which are reflected by those on his shoulder. National clothing – Petticoat breeches He also has the shortened coat sleeves with turn-backs up towards the elbows. I am not sure about the shirt sleeves being visible – surely the waistcoat sleeves should extend beyond the coat instead? |
