In case you are unaware of what I am talking about:

There have been several TMP posts featuring them recently. Do you have any? Are you tempted?

As I stated before, they may be the only way that I will ever get to a Peninsular War project. I also think their WSS range might be a great way to jumpstart an Imaginations project.

I would definitely like to see some in person, but I am very intrigued.

I've seen and played with some of their Ancients. They look great from front and rear, but when you are standing up looking down at the table you see mostly the perspex edges. It just looks – odd.

I have the Texas Revolution set. It is an area I've always wanted to game but thought I never would because other painting projects always took precedence. Now I can get it to the table. The added bonus is it came with Comanche and Texas Rangers for a little extra something.

They shook my confidence a little when I saw they had the 16th LANCERS on the AWI page. I'm afraid someone would have to review the box contents with great specificity before I got to thinking about need, storage and price. But I like the idea.

There's a lot of nonsense in their ACW line. I wonder if their other lines are likewise full of fantasy uniforms and flags.

I think I read somewhere that a black Sharpie along the edge helps improve the look. I know somebody had a "trick" to improve the look of the edge.

@Robert, good question, so I just fired off an email to ask them about it.

Martin Rapier03 Mar 2022 12:31 p.m. PST

No, but some of my friends have them. tbh, I'd rather just paint my own figures than much around trying to hide the edges etc.

Gear Pilot03 Mar 2022 12:46 p.m. PST

Seen them before. They aren't for me.

rmaker03 Mar 2022 12:55 p.m. PST

Not interested.

I have the scots jacobites and they are very good. Based on the original paper soldiers book. The later items where they attempt to put individual caricature faces on are not so good. I would never have painted an army this well…… a good, easy way into a new period.

As GurKhan said, they look great from front and back, but disappear when you look from the side. Somehow the classic tin flat figures looked better.

Bandolier03 Mar 2022 1:35 p.m. PST

I'm tempted by the Zulu Wars stuff. I don't want to paint all those Zulus but I like the period.

Thanks for the info. Looks cool.

Just purchased the Aztec\Conquistador full army in 18mm, with two supplemental packs. I have been eyeing WoFun minis for over a year. I have Peter Dennis' PDFs and tried to print and assemble, but my two arthritic thumbs make it difficult to cut the figures. I did do some 18mm WSS figures in paper.

You can ink the edges. I did that with the paper ones in the like I shared above.

I have an 18mm kickstarter ancients set. Tons of minis. I probably won't ever play them, though, as I won't have time. Was thinking of putting them up on the marketplace (if I can find time to do that).

They are very nice and a great way to get an army going quickly. I just haven't had time to play them.

You know, today was "get things sorted" day. Not counting the 6mm SYW Prussians on the painting table or the 25mm TYW in the garage, both of which will be sold when painted, the unpainted stack includes about 100 War of 1812 US infantry, two 6mm AWI armies, 5mm Carthaginians, 5/6mm Soviets, and six 5mm Napoleonic armies.

At this point, I'm not sure it matters how cheap and attractive a new concept is.

PzGeneral04 Mar 2022 5:02 a.m. PST

I have 3 'Full' sets:
English Civil War
War of the Roses
Punic War

They all come with very well written rules by Andy Callan.

Time periods I wanted to play but would never paint.

I don't have any and have no desire to get any.

I prefer paper stand ups as they have smaller edges

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP04 Mar 2022 7:46 p.m. PST

I don't know if I have the patience to cut them out.

KSmyth04 Mar 2022 8:14 p.m. PST

No, just no.

UshCha06 Mar 2022 3:10 a.m. PST

I got a sample of the printed and lazer cut figures at Hammerhead yesterday. If I went back to Ancients they may well be my figure of choice. If they ever do 1/144 (12mm) scale moderens I would be in. Also flat trees about 70 to 90mm tall and I would definitely have them.

No point waisting time painting when you can have good quality coloured flats. However there are limits "flat" tanks/vehicles do not seem ideal to me, you need them 3D so their position in 3D terrain is more obvious. There "flat cannons were excellent and sort of 3D.

DeRuyter08 Mar 2022 10:49 a.m. PST

So basically a preassembled version of the flats in the books then? I have the Trafalgar and WoTR books and the ships in particular seem fiddley to cut out. Not sure I would lay out that kind of cash for 2d figures frankly.
