I am interested in gaming small skirmishes between mainly small cavalry forces on the western front. French Dragoons vs German Uhlans sort of thing. Patrols encountering each other fighting for control of a village or position on the map. Any recommendations for rules would be much appreciated. For 28 and 10 mm figures. |

Through the Mud and the Blood (WW1) by Too Fat Lardies ought to do it or even their WW2 'Chain of Command' Rules. link |

I'm a big fan of Through the Mud and the Blood. I've personally never played with cavalry, but it does have rules for them. It's a fun set with a lot of customizability and room for historical flavor in the card activation system. |

People interestedin WW1-era cavalry operations and battles might want to try tracking down the following book. There are two copies on Amazon for not crazy money - CAVALRY COMBAT, by The United States Cavalry Association; The Telegraph Press, Harrisburg PA; 1937 Really a good book on the topic – with numerous maps, good detail and a great deal on Eastern Front cavalry actions. You could even use rules such as TSAF or Brother Against Brother for cavalry actions in 1914. You won't even need to mess around with weapons since the firearms were bolt-action magazine rifles with very few Maxims or Hotchkiss MGs supported by QF horse artillery. Don't forget jaegers in trucks or on bikes and Belgian Minerva armored cars. |

These might be useful BEYOND THE EMPIRE: Wargame Rules for Engagements with Small Forces on the Back of Beyond Mad Barons, Chinese Warlords, Revolutionary hordes, Archaic Imperialists, and Fascist interventionists -- your choice is endless for these skirmish rules for any Interwar theatre, but especially the madness that is the Back of Beyond. Players control five to six units plus armoured cars and/or other vehicles. Includes six scenarios. Pairs with Setting the East ablaze rules for larger battles. 1 vol, 110 pgs 2022 UK, PARTIZAN PRESS |

I was going to say the same as rvandusen. Bolt Action, TSATF, etc. will easily work for what you want (if you have those, or something similar). |

Depending on how big you want your games, take a look at One Hour Skirmish Wargames by John Lambshead. Great set of rules for small actions, easy to tweak for any period. The rules can handle probably two dozen figures per side. |

Why stick to the Western Front – there's a great book for the Eastern front – 'The End of Chivalry – the last great cavalry battles 1914-1918' by Alexis Wrangel, although some of these battles are big. |

@BillyNM The inclination towards the western front is due to an established familiarity through books and the aesthetics of the uniforms. Also due to availability as manufacturers and many gamers, myself included, have overlooked that theater. I'll definitely look into getting that book. Empress have some dashing looking dismounted Cossacks that could prove useful. |
