"Room inspections can be stressful when you have a nitpicky sergeant, especially if you're about to go on leave. Marines pay extra attention to detail. It is why our uniforms always look good and we maintain high state of readiness. This fact is true to the point that motivated NCOs can be sticklers to the point of absurdity. Maybe they're trying to buy some time before formation, or they want everybody to reflect a positive image of their leadership. Regardless, they can kick rocks because we have liberty call. This is how you can distract your sergeant during room inspections…" More here link Armand |

Leave porn out, that stops inspections in their tracks. |

Best one I ever saw was not telling the woman you married surreptitiously and smuggled into your room to be out before PT formation. That was a shock! |

In the Army we found that the best thing was to leave one thing obviously not clean, like the bottom corner of a window pane.As long as it is also easily visible upon entrance. You did a good job on everything else but just missed this one thing. The inspector is happy because they found one gig to write up so they don't have to get to thorough with the rest of the room and they're off to the next room. You have a minor fault to correct and the next several hours to yourself. Worked every time! |

A photo of a grandfather who was in the same service during WWII was always a good option. And they never went further into my wardrobe than the point I hung my re-enactment chain mail. Robert |

"Since the pin up posters are inside your personal space you can't be reprimanded." Things have changed since I was in the Corps. We didn't have any 'personal space'. |

We didn't do a lot of these types of inspections when I was a Rifle Plt Ldr or Mech Co. Cdr. But some of the troops would have a photo(s) of their girlfriend, etc., taped inside their locker door. These lovely young ladies were usually not clothed and in "untasteful" positions, etc. Yes, it did distract me … briefly … |

I liked the last one. I saw through the rest though I rarely did room inspections. I let the NCOs handle that. Agree with the comments above that by the time I was in service port was not well received. Joe |
