Getting my PhD the majority of Historians that I read thought it was a conservative revolution. Although there were some gains. Most white men got the right to vote, religious freedom through out the United States and less taxes. |

Fought to conserve the freedom they already had, and justified in terms of natural rights as per John Locke writing to justify an English revolution a century earlier. Plus it only changed the top of the political structure; the towns and counties were governed the same before and after. Unlike the disastrous French revolution which tried to change everything, all at once. |

Doc, You mean at the very top right? The Imperial government was gone. Because the colonial elites were still on top after the revolution and the men in the colonial assemblies are now the men in the state legislatures. |

Yes, the imperial system was replaced by a federal union. There WAS a loosening of some controls, and of course abolition of slavery in the north, but by and large American society did not change much. FFFFRRREEEEEDDDDOOOOOMMMMMM!!!! |

The greatest impact was on a global scale rather than a local one. It finally bankrupted France for starters and appeared to weaken Britain's world standing. |

GT, yes, though I'd argue those effects were from the WAR as opposed to the political revolution. However, see THE AGE OF THE DEMOCRATIC REVOLUTION -- it was a worldwide movement. |
