You, my son, have an amazing table – great terrain, great minis and lots of them – many thanks for sharing! |

You know George, we could have a great game with those figures…. |
Perris0707 | 09 Feb 2022 12:35 p.m. PST |
Ok wow. I don't know what figures he is using, but my guess is the figures sculpted by Massimo and sold by Black Watch Miniatures out of Spain. |
Double G | 09 Feb 2022 12:40 p.m. PST |
Thanks for the feedback everyone; the figures are 20mm fronm both B & B Miniatures out of the UK and as PErris0707 points out, the others are from Black Watch Miniatures/Massimo Costa, he is doing them for a group of modelers in Germany who have a museum and have done an 1859 project and are working on a 1870 project……………..his sculpts are tremendous. |

George, completely amazing! |

That looks amazing! I don't know much about this period at all, so would this be typical density of units for a Franco-Prussian War battlefield…..really, just wondering? |

"I don't know much about this period at all, so would this be typical density of units for a Franco-Prussian War battlefield…..really, just wondering?" Probably not in all honesty, but I'm all about mass and density in my layouts………….;)……… |

Well heck yeah Double G, it's super impressive! How long has it taken to amass this collection (everything – the terrain pieces, the mat, the figure basing…..all works together so nicely!)? |

"How long has it taken to amass this collection (everything – the terrain pieces, the mat, the figure basing…..all works together so nicely!)?" I collect 20mm figures and have been into three periods; Napoleonics, ACW and WWII. I've had an interest for FPW on and off for about 20 years, the artwork really grabbed me. B & B was the only company that did FPW in 20mm, every time I thought about diving in, it became daunting as I'd be starting from scratch, but then one day while fiddling around on Ebay, Hinds Figures out of the UK was selling a number of painted FPW lots from B & B for short money………….so I dove in. I added to it with more B & B, then a group of modelers from Germany who have a museum did a 1859 project, many of the French figures are suitable for FPW, so I bought many of them, then they started an 1870 project and added Prussians and Bavarians, so I bought them, Massimo Costa from Italy is the sculptor, he owns Black Watch Miniatures. I'd guess this project has been ongoing for about 5 or so years give or take; I now have about 3,000 total figures, pretty amazing to me to pull this together. It's been a great deal of fun as well, which in the end is what the hobby is all about, having fun. |

Great story, and achievement Double G! |

Thanks; like putting together my other three collections, this has been a fun journey. My plan is to get over to Europe next year and tour some of the famous FPW battlefields, then get to Germany and view the 1870 project the German modelers I have become friendly with, their work is top shelf and very inspirational. |

"Amazing collection in the one true scale!" I'm buying what you're selling………..actually, I've bought about 20,000 or so figures across 4 different eras in the one true scale……… |

Double G, your thread here is like a magnet……I bet quite a few others beside myself have come back to look again at your wonderful pictures. I've had a chance to look at the Black Watch Miniatures website now, and enjoyed viewing the figures sets available there. Such striking, sculpted animation, and mixed postures with these miniatures! In a way, this is what attracted me and a few friends to collect the Old Glory 15s' back in the 1990's, because of the animation those ACW figures featured…..the figures looked in motion! You've done a terrific job of featuring this motion and posturing through your base mounting here too, with some real tension created, and the scenic action captured on the bases (their arrangement and look – like mini-dioramas). |

Thank you so much for the kind words, glad you are enjoying my images. Since I am not a gamer, you nailed my end game; each stand is in fact a mini diorama. I thought about basing the figures individually, but then it would take me a month to do a set up, much too labor intensive and it would suck the fun out of the process. I may in fact at some point decide to game, so 4 figures per base should work I assume. the other thing I have tried to do is stagger the bases and take away the "block" type stale set up, stagger the cavalry and charging infantry coming out of the woods and attacking the structure…………..the other figures I did more in a block style, I like the overall look of this one. Thank you again for the kind words, I really love the hobby. |

"……would suck the fun out of the process." Say no more! Actually IMO, many game rules can suck the look out of many collections too….to a degree, many of our wargaming figure lines have had to conform themselves to 'confinement' on rigid gaming stands, so that they've lost much of their animated liveliness. Double G, you could certainly game with your collection and those bases, but deciding for the freedom of your collection's visual expression, has meant its overall effect hasn't needed to be compromised either. |

At some point, these troops need to see some serious action aside from layouts………….;)………. |

George, I always love your threads here on TMP. As I have said before your figures and terrain are fabulous. This may seem trivial in the scheme of all you have done, but I really think your hedges are truly outstanding. I hope to see you again someday at a con. Maybe Fall In at the Host this year. Tom |

Thanks Tom, I always appreciate your kind words and you noticing the small details in my layouts; would love to get together at Fall In, keep me posted and if you accompany Rick, then I will consider doing the convention…………..hope you are well. |
