"The previously unseen footage – which was mixed in with older footage of the dictator that has been seen before – is thought to show Kim during a visit to a construction site in Pyongyang in August 2021. Kim, believed to be 38, is shown touring the site with his lackeys while having a cigarette, before struggling to get down a set of temporary stairs…" YouTube link

Un is a spoiled child. He has to get attention from the rest of the world. He builds missiles while 40% of his population live in sub-standard conditions, are starving, some must freeze to death, etc. As well has he has "concentrations camps", which are absolutely medieval. So if he does not get some headlines/attention he says or does something that makes the news. He still has the blood on his hands for almost beating a US student to death while he visited "Un's kingdom". And the US student died shortly after getting back to the USA. Hopefully the rumors are true and he is in very bad health. May he die a slow painful death for his many heinous actions. Rumors also say his sister would take over once he is gone. And she is as bad of worse than he. |

Hopefully the rumors are true and he is in very bad health. Last article I read suggested his health was better and he was carrying a good deal less weight after that 'disappearance'. Any normal person having that family history of health problems would probably change their lifestyle pronto. But in country with ruling family whose approach could be described as feudal and theocratic, on top of vanilla tyranny, where up can be redefined as down who knows! One wonders if anyone actually tells him the truth – even his doctors – like quit the cigarettes! |

Quite an inspiring video, with great music in the background. Reminds me of a documentary I saw many years ago, don't remember any details. Team of American doctors had gone to North Korea to perform eye surgery on people with serious conditions which had essentially blinded them, cataracts maybe. Had an unveiling ceremony, where the people had their bandages removed, and they could see! No one thanked the American doctors, all thanked the current Kim (previous one I think), and one goofball stood up and said he was thankful for his renewed sight, because now he would be better able to shoot Americans. Don't know if they said these things because they were on camera and felt they had to, or if they genuinely believed them. |

He is like a small boy demanding attention. If he doesn't get it, he does bad things to get attention. I give President Trump credit. He played him like a child, then gave him attention. After that, he got quiet until after the last election. He wants a seat at the big table. If it keeps him happy, pull the high chair up to the main table. Give him a slice of a pizza too. |

Little Rocket Man stopped firing missiles every couple of months and he got pretty quiet. He started up again since the election. I think Trump handled him better then the current or previous regimes did. He gave him attention, which is all the little dictator wants. He wants to feel like a big fish in a large sea. Acknowledge his existence and he goes back to making his own people miserable. |

Last article I read suggested his health was better and he was carrying a good deal less weight after that 'disappearance'. Frankly he may have gone to his own version of a "fat farm", etc. Regardless … I don't trust much information coming from Un and his corrupt regime. E.g. IIRC at one time he said, North Korea had no cases of COVID ? No one thanked the American doctors, all thanked the current Kim (previous one I think), and one goofball stood up and said he was thankful for his renewed sight, because now he would be better able to shoot Americans. Don't know if they said these things because they were on camera and felt they had to, or if they genuinely believed them. Regardless if he said it on his own or was told to … If you ever saw their anti-American propaganda, it's amazing anyone would want to escape the North. For fear they may be turn over to "The Americans". They will never thank the USA for anything. During the war, primarily US Bombers/Fighter Bombers destroyed almost every structure, roads, rail lines, etc. Turned much of the North into a wasteland/moonscape. Not to mention the very high losses they suffered in men & material. E.g. I think their entire tank forces were totally destroyed. Save for a few. Better they fear and hate us. The only thing keeping Un & his retinue from being terminated with extreme prejudice with TLAMs, etc. Is the fact they have so much FA, missiles, etc. aimed at Seoul. Which now has grown to over 12 million people there. Including Americans, Euros, etc. At this point there is no way to completely stop his first barrage. Which could destroy much of the North side of Seoul, tightly packed like NYC. With 10,000 + civilian casualties. Of course he knows that is his only shot. After that the ROKs, USA[UN ?] will turn North Korea back to a moonscape. And if he is captured alive, he knows he will be charged with crimes against humanity, etc., etc. After I served 22 months in the ROK, '84-'85, with 2 tours on the DMZ. Our M113 Mech Bn was forward deployed just South of the DMZ. When we were not running the missions on the DMZ. Packing live rounds. The war is not over it is still just a truce, since '53. So when it comes to the Norks, I have little to nothing to say other than negatives. And …Yes, I am biased … OVI +1 I think you got it reversed. Old Skool … he knows every 4-8 years he has to dealt with another POTUS. He is there for life … hopefully a short one. As far as who played who … Un is a gangster, a predator, president for life, etc. He, like Putin, Xi, Iran etc. can sense weaknesses, especially with leadership. So I think you got it reversed. 'nuff said … or DHing … |

What a laugh! Towards the end of this farce the camera pans across modern city landscapes clearly meant to impress the viewer as to the beauty and advanced nature of North Korea's cities but if you look closely there are no cars on the multi-lane super highways, no one walking on the overhead pedestrian walkways …. this Communist Propaganda rubbish is such a joke. He's going to get such a shock when he goes to the other side and meets his maker and has to answer some questions about his contribution. |
Legion 4 | 02 Feb 2022 4:28 p.m. PST |
Yes, like many Communists they love propaganda. They must think the West is that gullible, etc. I think he may be heading South … waaaay South. "Burn Baby Burn !" …😈 |

"Can Winter Sports Survive on a Warming Plant", " a lot of the Arctics infrastructure is threatened by rising temperatures", "losing native languages is painful, but they can be recovered", some current articles in the Econimists. They supported Obama and Hillary in 2016. They supported Joe Biden in 2020. They are described as fiscally just right of center, but socially liberal. Also to read their full articles, you have to subscribe. How extremely "liberal" of them. I would think they would want to share the wealth🙂. So I think I will trust what I witnessed and not use them as a source for what transpired. You know, those evil news sources on the web, never try and force me to subscribe. But many of those considered mainstream and reliable do. 🤔 Yet they are the ones who shout redistribution of wealth and equality. Like I always say: what's theirs is theirs and what's ours is negotiable. 😉 |

35thOVI +1 … As we all know based on which the side the media is on. They are biased, narrative & agenda driven. The Economist is no exception. E.g., someone the media, etc., don't agree with/don't like, etc. could cure cancer. The headline would read, "So & So Cured Cancer, Puts Thousands of Doctors & Nurses Out of Work !" …
How he got what he wanted for no cost.I'm with OSG. Many times Un does … As I said, … The only thing keeping Un & his retinue from being terminated with extreme prejudice with TLAMs, etc. No one wants to go to war with him. Even some of the South Koreans. The loss of blood & treasure is not worth it. So yes, many times he gets what he wants. As he knows no one will use force of any kind to stop him. He and his "cultists" are just not worth it. But as I have said before, if the USA, ROKs and maybe the UN(?) wanted to/had to, could turn his infrastructure into a moonscape, destroy most of his military, and with any luck kill him and many of his followers. However, the PRC/CCP is his godfather. No one wants to go to war with China, again. So yeah he may get what he wants sometimes. |

"Also to read their full articles, you have to subscribe. How extremely "liberal" of them. I would think they would want to share the wealth." Try the public library-- even in my small city "The Economist" is available for reading. |

"Can Winter Sports Survive on a Warming Plant" Not sure why this is curious. The answer is an obvious no. And while winter sports are OK in some parts of the world, in my area two ski fields have closed because there is no snow most years. " a lot of the Arctics infrastructure is threatened by rising temperatures" I lived for a while in Alaska, and still read the Alaska daily news. Alaska is very conservative. And this is a constant topic. "losing native languages is painful, but they can be recovered" See above. Also discussed in Alaska. They supported Obama and Hillary in 2016. They supported Joe Biden in 2020. They also had headlines for Clinton to resign. |

Nick, if you want my views on man made global warming and warming in general, read the page 4 of "Russia is preparing to invade the Ukraine by the end of January" under ultra modern warfare. I won't rehash it. My belief based on the articles I saw and some I dug up on the web, "the Economist" had very few, if any pro Trump articles during his 4 years. I would bet they were very critical of everything he did, or "did not do". I bet they blamed him for things he did not do or say. Example: link There are true comments in here and outright fabrications. FYI I listened to that full speech, uncut. So I know there are outright fabrications in it. The article is jelling their perceived base, those they believe read their magazine and think and believe the way they do. If they were middle of the road, they could just have reported the facts, not made some up. So I will choice to believe their explanations of Trump having his butt handed to him by North Korea, to be bias as well. |

IMO he got quiet because he was sick, which may have resulted in a lifestyle change, but certainly resulted in an extended period out of the limelight. There is nothing I have heard to suggest this was the result of US diplomacy. Theater is the game Un plays. All these strongmen are BS experts. He got the PR he wanted and so did POTUS. I don't think it made any difference, re the security of ROK. Legion knows this stuff first hand, this sounds like the biggest threat Un poses. |

Frankly he may have gone to his own version of a "fat farm", etc. Regardless … I don't trust much information coming from Un and his corrupt regime. E.g. IIRC at one time he said, North Korea had no cases of COVID ? IIRC correctly it was from an article based on a SK analysis – people have good reason to keep an eye on the doing's of the Kim family. N. Korean Leader Kim Jong-un's Wife Ri Sol Ju Appears In Public For First Time In Five Months Though having seen the propaganda photos I'd suggest he was closer to my age than the estimated 38! Feel sorry for his wife – if he keeps having health crises one wonders who would end up as 'regent' or indeed if someone might do something to facilitate a 'succession'. Feudal history teaches that unless the wife is a power in her own right her position and that of any kids is very precarious! As noted, ultimately no one is going to mess with NK except may be the CCCP who would now doubt move to stop a succession crisis turning into a chance for peaceful reunification. |

He got the PR he wanted and so did POTUS. I don't think it made any difference, re the security of ROK. Legion knows this stuff first hand, this sounds like the biggest threat Un poses. Yes our Mech Bn being just behind or on the DMZ. We always went on alert. Which we never knew if it was a drill or the real thing/going back to war. We were clearly within the North's FA ranges. And vs. versa of course … The North was and still is something to be of concern. Especially with their new long range missile tech. I was there when Un's daddy, Jung was in power. He was more "stable"(?) than Un it appears. We were always getting intel briefings on what the North was doing, etc. They had already dug 3 tunnels under the DMZ at that time, '84-'85. At least one was large enough for tanks. By 2014(?) there were 27 tunnels found I was told. When on the DMZ mission. We ran armed squad sized patrols 2407 along the DMZ. During the day, generally the patrols would look for an ambush site they'd occupy during the night. The DMZ mission was primarily to stop the North's infiltration to the South. It has been going on since '53, AFAIK. Where the war ended, well … not really it is only a truce, we/the UN are still in a state of war with the North. We flew the UN Flag on our Guard Posts and our FOB, "Warrior Base". To remind the North this is still a UN mission. Not just the USA & the ROK military forces. [Whether the rest of the UN would show up, even then was in question ?] There was an entrenched FA Gun Plt of 5 or so, 155s across the dirt road from Warrior Base. Designated 4 Papa 1, was our on call FA support if needed. They practiced fire missions at all times of day or night. Sometimes with live ammo firing on a small island in the Imjin River. Crab Island was on the UN side of the river was their impact area.
IIRC correctly it was from an article based on a SK analysis – people have good reason to keep an eye on the doing's of the Kim family. Very much so if that is the case. The Kims are the #1 threat to the South. However, Un's docs could have put him on their version of a "Fat Farm" ?! Nothing but a little Kimchee & rice every day. And a lot exercise, walking, etc. ! Feudal history teaches that unless the wife is a power in her own right her position and that of any kids is very precarious! AFAIK Un's sister would replace him. Rumored she is more ruthless, etc. than he. As noted, ultimately no one is going to mess with NK except may be the CCCP who would now doubt move to stop a succession crisis turning into a chance for peaceful reunification. The PRC/CCP does not want a unified Korea, under the South on their border. For a number of obvious reasons. I can't imagine the 2 Koreas being unified anytime soon. Many of the younger South Koreans actually see no reason to reunify. Most of the South's relatives caught on the wrong side of the border at wars end. Are dead or very old, etc. And it could almost bankrupt the South trying to bring the North into the 20th let alone the 21st Century. If unified by any means. |
Escapee | 03 Feb 2022 2:53 p.m. PST |
Very interesting and not a very comfortable spot re patrols, tunnels, rounds fired at all hours. I believe there have been a number of US casualties there since the war ended, in many ways always a combat zone. What did we do about the tunnels? The South is so different,a vibrant, healthy society. NK sounds like the dreariest place on earth. |
ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa | 03 Feb 2022 3:03 p.m. PST |
And it could almost bankrupt the South trying to bring the North into the 20th let alone the 21st Century. If unified by any means. I think its fair to say in that situation international institutions and allied states would quite happily pony up development loans. SK having a good credit rating and most everyone being pleased to see the back of the NK leadership. The only unhappy people would probably be the CCP as you say who really don't want unification. |
Legion 4 | 03 Feb 2022 6:51 p.m. PST |
Very interesting and not a very comfortable spot re patrols, tunnels, rounds fired at all hours. Yes, as I said I had 2 tours on the DMZ. Sometimes things could get pretty busy ! But my 22 months in the ROK, was some of the best soldiering I have experienced. Like when in the 101, we deployed to Panama 3 times. Nothing to get in the way of the mission. I believe there have been a number of US casualties there since the war ended, in many ways always a combat zone. Yes, especially during Vietnam. The North wanted to support their Communist Brothers, the VC/NVA. The US took a number of losses. It was sometimes called the 2d Korean War. What did we do about the tunnels? Blocked them off, AFAIK. Some US & ROK forces got to "tour" them, etc. I think they were more of a way for the North to annoy the US & ROK forces. Like in the middle of the night, the North would blare loud music[Rock mostly, IIRC] across the DMZ to our FOB, etc. The South is so different,a vibrant, healthy society. NK sounds like the dreariest place on earth. The South is one of the best economies in the region. The South is more like West Germany, and the North more like East Germany was. I think its fair to say in that situation international institutions and allied states would quite happily pony up development loans. SK having a good credit rating That certainly is possible. Again the South has a very good economy. CCP as you say who really don't want unification. Yes, the CCP likes a "buffer zone" between them and the US/ROKs/UN. Putin wanted the similar, he is not very happy with Poland being in NATO. And US forces have up to Bde strength unit, about 1500. Training with the Poles, etc. Right across Putin's border. Now with recent events 1700 82d ABN Paratroops are going to Poland to join the US Bde. The US Bde would most likely a Tank Heavy or Mech Heavy Combine Arms unit. Plus now the US 2 Cav Squadron/(Bn), a Stryker unit, stationed in Germany will move to Romania, temporarily. Again right across the Russian border. Commie Dictators like buffer zones, it seems. For a number of good reasons. E.g. Xi & Putin … |
