North East Germany is not that far from Southern Germany or the Czech Republic, both part of the area of the La Tene Celtic culture. The gold may have ended up there through trade, or maybe it was a 'tribute' payment to make the Northern barbarians go away… |

Burying valuables seems to have been a common 'security solution' in turbulent times. Just in Britain we have several 'hoards' that have been found, the Staffordshire Hoard being the largest and most valuable. We can only surmise that the owners didn't survive to reclaim their stuff! True, but the hordes found in Britain can usually be connected to known turbulence. I wonder what was going on in that part of Germany to lead to the coins being buried 2,000 years ago. The Romans didn't make it that far east. Maybe it was Arminius coming to power? |

Could very well have been a Roman thrust into the area and it was simply not recorded. |
