So I learned yesterday that there is an apparently new frustration for sellers to worry about. I often post items for sale on a couple of Facebook marketplaces, and generally have a good experience. Twice this past week though, I have been contacted by two seemingly interested buyers. In both cases, neither has proven to be the real deal. This irritating, thoughtless practice is called "ghosting". So beware.

Yep, had the same thing happen to me a few weeks back. I'm not sure why they feel the need to do this. Very annoying.

I think some do it as a hobby. There's one fellow who has "I want these" to at least four of my sales and has never followed up or answered an email.

Happens all the time, and not just on FB.

It is against Jewish law to feign interest in a product you have no intention of buying. It is also a violation of good manners.

Nothing new about this at all, it's been going on in one form or another for decades

Is this usually accompanied by an offer about half of what you asked? or perhaps they expect you to contact them and beg by lowering your price in some kind of desperation?

Had it happen to me on eBay. What's the old saying "Bust a deal, face the wheel".

Very disappointing and something I will never do.

I never propose a deal unless I'm willing to close it, it's just bad form. On the other hand, I've tried to give Interloper Miniatures my money about 6 times or so and they've never responded. So it's not just customers that do this.

It is a bit annoying.
People have many motives for what they do. So the answer to this problem probably has many directions, from embarrassment to a cry for some interaction of any sort.

Car sellers have suffered from it for a 100 years.

Had that experience on the Marketplace on TMP. A person contacts me then I don't here from them (often after sending pics) so I contact them and eventually they respond "Oh I just was curious" or something like that. Frustrating

Yep, happening here on TMP more often than ever. Unfortunate.
