it's a pity that this show ended, because there were some backstories & questions unanswered(such as what has happened on Laconia, or these "resurrection dogs" are sentient?)

Yeah, I don't think they wanted to handle the 20 year time jump that happens between books.

I gave up on it two years ago. I found it boring and predictable in a weird way: Here's what we don't want to happen. Here's the plan. Okay, we start implementing the plan, and everything goes opposite ending the way we didn't want it to end. Every. Single. Time. Yawn. Plus the gratuitous language was a huge turn off for me, and the wokeness. I'm sure I'm in the extreme silent minority on TMP.

I gave up on season 4. Too many story lines, most of which were cringy and not worth watching. What happened to the nice, tight story telling of season 3?

Irish Marine21 Jan 2022 9:53 a.m. PST

My beef was the seasons were to short, they could have done justice to the series with more time. Showing these alien dogs and then the little brother and sister story line that went no where was stupid.

Goober21 Jan 2022 10:04 a.m. PST

Re the Laconia dogs and the brother and sister – Hedging their bets against either being picked up elsewhere or saved by the fans again, I suspect.

This season did suffer from being compressed into just 6 episodes. I also found the resolution of the whole Free Navy sublot to be something of a deus ex machina.

Well, I feel it wasn't perfect, but it remains my favorite SciFi show of all time.

I enjoyed the series and thought it excellent on all counts.

Only six episodes because that was all they could afford with the budget they were given.

My wife and I enjoyed the show. We liked Drummer a lot.

Huscarle21 Jan 2022 3:51 p.m. PST

One of the best sci-fi shows – I'm only halfway through the final season, and disappointed it is only 6 episodes. That said, I was certainly pissed off with Naomi and her son's story; too drawn out and boring.
I concur with Schogun, Drummer is my favourite character; and although I disliked Ashford originally, I really came around to liking him.

Mr. Tibbles,

and the wokeness

Not trying to argue, but can you give examples? I pick up on that nonsense pretty easy and don't remember any.

My wife and I really liked it. The science and space travel reminded me of Traveller RPG.

Enjoyed it a lot. Was hopping for a end all space battle!

My favorite sci fi series ever by far, prior to Expanse it was Firefly. I too would have wished for a longer last season. And yes, my favorite char was Drummer.

cloudcaptain21 Jan 2022 9:47 p.m. PST

+1 to mghFond on all counts.

Loved it, the best SF series in TV for ages, edging out The Orville and Lower Decks IMHO. Not sure what was "woke" about it, although that's becoming a lazy term of insult these days anyway. As th the loose ends – read the books. I'm half way through book 8 at the moment (binge reading :) )

I really liked the first season. I, too, was reminded of Traveller (and 2300). The first season told a complete story and came to an appropriate end, so I didn't feel drawn to watch more. Same with Dune -- after I read the first book, I never wanted to read the sequels, although I have re-read Dune 3 or 4 times. Same with On Basilisk Station: great story that came to a great end. Enough.

James Bond novels and movies, on the other hand, yeah, keep 'em coming.

I have to second that. Best SF show around.

joedog27 Jan 2022 9:13 p.m. PST

The series – books and TV – was described to me as being a lot like it was based on a good RPG group.

Characters are thrown together, and suddenly they are pivotal to everything important in the universe.

QUATERMASS01 May 2022 10:07 a.m. PST

Enjoyed it very much.
But the main character Holden is it? is annoying and the actor has an unfortunate face.

I have just rewatched seasons 1-3, (I only watch Region 2 DVD sets, so no access to 4,5 as yet).
A very good show so far. Production excellent. Writing… sometimes a little 'predictable'… but, then, they throw if a 'WTF Just Happened?' Rewind!

Not sure where seasons 4-5 will go… will find out someday. But… I have the feeling that it may have 'ended' with season 3.

Favourite character, Miller… WITH hat! Least favourite, Holden. the conflicted Hero. But, good performances by all.
Amusing to 'place' many actors from other TV shows!

Very watchable…so far. Hope it does not degenerate.

I have not read books. I haven't read Sci Fi for a very long time.

wballard24 Mar 2023 12:50 p.m. PST

Pretty much gave up after episode 3 season 1 as by that time I didn't care what any of the main characters did or what happened to them.
