You were asked – TMP link Some players can enjoy a game win or lose and some players can't – you know the type, moan that they were cheated out of certain victory, maybe spend the last half of the game searching for rule loopholes they think they can use to their own advantage. So, be honest, which are you? 68% said "I enjoy the game, I try to win but I don't whine when I lose." 25% said "I enjoy the game. The end is irrelevant." 2% said "The only point in playing is to win, and if I lose I sulk like a petulant child." |

It's just a game. You can't win all the time…and I don't! I take great pride in losing spectacularly. |

The only times I can remember being unhappy after a game, were due to the scenario being horribly unbalanced. A starship game where my ship seemed incapable of damaging my foe. A WWII convention game where my troops could not possibly reach their objective in time – it just wasn't possible! |

When you have to fight your way onto your table edge, facing a fully-deployed enemy force that outnumbers you two-to-one, and your objective is at the far end of the table, then yes -- it's a challenge to maintain that "stiff upper-lip." |

I ran a game set in Normandy. 101st troops seizing a bridge against osttruppen. To win a team had to outperform their historic performance in the skirmish. Paras took the bridge at significantly higher casualties and some osttruppen hadn't retreated so compared to the real fight the osttruppen won because they did so much better. I called it as such. For the next two days I was berated with dozens of messages from the guy who played the 101st about he won and I had to contact all the other players and tell them. Never gamed with him again. Never complained about a game again. |

I lose graciously. You voice legitimate complaints. They whine. |

I've had some games where others really made a stink about my rulings (attempting to be BtB). That really tinctured that game, for the worse for me. Had a convention game where the ref's nerfed my tactical use of a spell because they felt it would be far too effective. It annoyed me, but other than that, it was a fantastic game which I still cherish. I also still believe my argument was valid -- not my fault the spell should have devastated the poor sods! LOL! My team still trounced the enemy, in spite of the unrealistic ruling from the referees… Cheers! |

I whine like a little girl. |

I don't whine when I lose – I start long before that. |

You know, this was really not the sort of question where you'd expect self-reporting to be reliable. I suppose it was better than asking whether we cheated. |

But you can drink wine when you lose. |

I try to win, usually fail, but so long as my opponent and I enjoy the game it doesn't matter. We game, drink beer, and talk. I did have one game quite a few years ago, and enjoyed the experience so much that I seriously contemplated selling all my figures and giving up. I never played him again. |

I played an ancients game once (at a club) and my opponent used such "gamesmanship" and was such a that I packed everything away for 2 decades. I'd been an avid player for 10 years; that incident, for some unknown reason, broke me. |

I usually just chock it up to the disfavor of the DICE GODS. Perhaps I forgot to sacrifice to them the night before. |

Remember, its not whether you win or lose but who gets the blame. |

I played in a SYW convention game, a few years ago, where my side lost. And it was one of the best convention experiences I have ever had. Had a great time it was fun. That had alot to do with the opponents and GM. Laid back good people. Everyone was respectful and having a great time. |

I wine while I play. Sometimes I beer. |
