I am thinking or looking at a major rebasing of some figures. I would appreciate any advice as to whether there is a way of loosening the glue between the figure and it's base to speed up the task. |

Depends on the glue. Some you can just soak loose in warm water. |

HI Put the figures in your freezer. wait a hour. Make a Oven pan of warm water. Have the water be deep enough to cover the base.
take out the cold figures and place them in the the hot water and wait a minute. It should break the bond of the glue. |

I build mine to make rebasing a real pita – good luck! I think "Never rebase" is a maxim of Mr. Whitehouse's that I whole-heartily embrace. At least not my own figures. |

Assuming that the bases are an organic material (card, wood or board, not plastic or metal), stand the figures in a baking tray and fill it with water to about knee height. Leave them for at least 24 hours, the bases should peel off, take care and if necessary let the figures soak for longer. File off any glue residue on the figures bases using a flat engineering file, which you can put on a working surface and rub the bases on. |

I'm in the middle of a major rebasing activity and I'm soaking mine in warm water. No problems so far. |

I have rebased hundreds, if not thousands, of figures. For any based on mdf, thin ply or card the soaking in water works well. I have also had to deal with figures based on plastic, which are more difficult. I usually scrape away as much scenic dressing as I can and then use a fine, but strong, blade point to carefully lever the figure base away from the plastic. Tedious, but it works. It Is then usually necessary to clean off any residual glue with a scalpel and file before rebasing. |

With plastic, twisting the base also helps break the glue. Metal is the tough one… |
