Five months from start to finish – The old school interpretation of the Legion du Midi is up on my blog, complete with a description of the uniform by none other than Philip Haythornthwaite!

Love the old school look. Your posting prompted a trip to the gaming library downstairs for a nostalgic leafing through a copy of The Wargame by Charles Grant, my intro to the hobby.

Wonderful! My post was successful then. The Charles Grant book is sitting on my shelf within a long arm reach! For me it was the Airfix Guide to Napoleonic Wargaming that did it though.

Best,

David

Beautiful, and thanks for all of the attached reading material.

Probably more than anyone wanted, but I figure somewhere down the road someone else will want to paint these and voila – a ready manual for the uniform! Philip was very kind in letting me reproduce his letter!

Excellent stuff, and a nice "change of pace" type unit for a French army!

Indeed Gonsalvo. One does get tired of all the blue!

A great post especially with all that expert imput.
Having just finished the Hanoverian Legion, the Legion du Midi is on my "to do" list, so this is very helpful.
A while ago there was a link on TMP to an article on the same subject by Jemima Fawr on his blog.

Forrester,

So glad this post will be helpful to you. I think the work by Jemima Fawr was the foundation of my research into the uniforms, which in the end led to me contacting Mr. Haythornthwaite.

OP, do you know what division/corps they were assigned to?

photocrinch03 Jan 2022 9:47 a.m. PST

Army of Portugal, 3rd division I believe. Look up Fuentes de Onoro OOB and they are listed along with the Legion Hanovrienne.
