Having done quite a bit with 1/72 and 15mm – in that scale I prefer metal for the weight and heft of the figures

I would never have chosen 1/72 (well not since the early 1970s) as 28mm is so much more forgiving.

Metal figs have that edge (and i do mean literally that edge) of sharper moulding, that helps with a shaky hand. The price difference is massive, but, for me, the investment is in my time, not my credit card.

I have nearly finished 40 Cuirassiers for the Waterloo Project. This has been three weeks plus of work and I did get Zvezda plastics also out of curiosity. They are brilliant….for plastics….but the AM figures in metal (yes, they do need some work) just flatter my painting skills (at about five times the price I do admit)

It depends what level you seek, tabletop or exhibition standard. Both are equally valid.

But never economise on the figures you will then spend ages painting. You only have so much time on God's earth….

I have 15/18mm metal and won't change but have recommended 1/72plasticfor any coming along looking for opinions.
One thing in difference of 15, 1/72, and 28mm is those 28mm look fantastic but getting the ground scale to make a large army fit without being under bombardment takes a big table.

I have tried plastic but quickly returned to metal. The "feel" is wrong and, as noted above, they seem more difficult paint.

Not a fan of plastics and I have no interest in assembling my figures. I am also waiting to see how the plastics fair in the long run as too many plastic formulations get brittle over time.

I agree with BTC Terrainman.

Hard enough to get everyone painted, don't need to struggle with assembly too, especially in 15mm

I've recently been playing with plastic ancient Greeks. I struggled to assemble them well, my eyes simply let me down, and I break a lot of them when playing.
Metal for me from now on. But I understand the attraction.
