Reports from India claim that China has started to deploy armed robotic vehicles to handle the altitude and terrain that has proven too difficult for its troops…

Makes sense. The climate is horrible on living things so cut out that bunch of casualties and logistics.

Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and Harvard Law School's International Human Rights Clinic have called on world governments to halt the development of war robots for almost a decade,

Nobody seems to care in Russia and China. Does anyone have any knowledge on what (or if) the US is looking at for this or are we going to wait until it's too late?

On a side note: lots of scary coverage about Russia and Ukraine, daily updates and dire scenarios. I may not be really sharp but doesn't a possible war between the US supplier of a large percentage of goods (China) and a country where we've sent a lot of our tech work (India) bode not so good for "watch the bouncy ball" US?

They aren't autonomous vehicles, they apparently need an operator in close range. Also, I would assume the vehicles are electric and need recharging.

The climate is cold but arid, so the machines might be OK out there.

But maybe not the operator. But they have another …

Depends on what "close range" means and it's easier to prep for a handful of people vs 100s. At least they don't have to rely on a second country for their batteries.

Yes, regardless … the PRC has "depth in their bench" … so to speak.

At least they don't have to rely on a second country for their batteries.
A critical factor … one which some others will have to (re-)learn the hard way. E.g. the USA …

"started to deploy armed robotic vehicles to handle the altitude and terrain that has proven too difficult for its troops…"

A big mistake, sending it in without infantry support (as your opponent will deploy acclimatized infantry…)

Of course … or drones …

Leave it to us humans to fight over ground that is to harsh to live on.

Batteries don't like cold, so it will be interesting to see how much endurance they have.

Col Durnford +1, won't be the first time …
