Well, this unit of British (51st Foot, 2nd West Riding Light Infantry) completes the infantry for the Anglo-Portuguese army. It now boasts 20 British, 1 Brunswick and 7 Portuguese infantry units (each twenty four strong with 4 – 8 extra skirmishers depending on type), plus three units of rifles (each 9 strong), plus 23 extra skirmish stands (each of 2 figs): A total infantry count of 875 figures and, phew don't I know it. link More pics on blog: link Just one unit of Portuguese cavalry to paint and the army is, for all intents and purposes, done and dusted. Then I'll do the usual full roll call and parade. Can't wait, 2022 is going to be a good year. |

Those are really beautiful. I really like the peninsular army because of the mix of uniforms. |

Gorgeous work, and fabulous basing too. |

I, for one, will be lifting a glass of port in your honor when you finish that last Portuguese cavalry unit. It's been an honor to watch your single-minded pursuit of this project. Mar |

Well done. Great standard of painting across the armies. I like how you blended in the unit labels to the bases. |

Basing wasn't something I got quite right at first. Initially I went six stands of four on 40mm x 40mm with white labels. Though these are 60mm deep because of the firing line pose (to stop figure 'clash' in column). The white labels were very much on the glaring side and I didn't like them much.
After a dozen units or so I decided to rebase for a tighter fit (and smaller footprint),going for four stands of 6 on 45mm x 45mm (still 60mm deep for firing line), and I decided to tone down the unit label by simply printing onto brown cartridge paper. I also decided to fully 'embrace the pin' at this point and added two tacks to the second centre base to hold ID and quality beads.
Which look like this in play. We don't use roster sheets at my house because I hate having lots of paper sheets around and things get forgotten / misplayed too easily. Everything is in plain view and readable: number is command group and under that green denotes average defence / morale dice; on the other side green denotes average combat dice and above it yellow denotes light infantry. Other colours are used for veteran or raw, guard, stubborn, fierce, etc. We use the same colours in all games for much the same things and they have become hard wired: Blue is always veteran / good / elite, etc. Red is always raw / poor / battle weary, etc.
