Not for most, as I use old Eastlight (tm) paper filing A4 boxes as I have for 40 odd years. But space being at a premium, I'd neglected this important task for two years. Some painting progress has been made and more 25/28mm 'units' are table-top ready, they had to be contained. My Allied 1805/ Austrians in particular were a jumble so their two boxes have been reformatted with unit spacing added. No direct pic today but here's what my French heavy cavalry divisions (2/3rds of them) look like until they also grow:-

I have about 60 4L or 9L Really Useful Boxes and also 24 18L versions and I still don't have enough storage. |

I bought a load of the book mailer (think pizza box) bundles from Uline. 14x14 and come in 2-3-4 inch heights. |

Yes I understand the concepts. While I have a larger flat (apartment) than I used to, I lost a lockable garage when I shifted 4 years ago. Hence I've not only have to juggle the lead pile, scenery and all the craft material inside where a lot of it used to reside in the garage and could be taken out when not needed. But who doesn't need ready access to paints and hills, scenic dross and left over stuff? So I 'reconfigure' the living space requirements to suit, I will eventually get a more stable space arrangement when other models go out the door. (Not soldiers). I use these sturdy and portable 'paper era' boxes because they protect the taller figures, swinging sabres and eagles held high (or any flags) the best for me. They also stack and sit well when transported. 6 will fit in a modern banana box so I'm recycling what I can! I've also used the book mailers [the ones that survive any travel to me intact] you mentioned as model bases, but also the insert dividers for these boxes. I was using 3mm base board but that level of strength just isn't necessary! cheers d |
