Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season!

I am very interested in the Battlegroup rules for WWII. I can see that the rules are set up to use miniatures at either 15mm or 20mm scales. I have miniatures in both scales, but different theatres (e.g., Africa in 15mm and Western Europe in 20mm). I see that measurements in the rules for movement and ranges, etc., are set up in inches.

Question: Do the rules differentiate in measurement by scale? In other words are measurements different for 15mm than for 20mm? Or do the published measurements work for both scales?

PS – I also read that some play Battlegroup at 28mm scale. I assume players have to manually calculate measurements for this scale?

Any help is appreciated.

There is no groundscale mentioned in the Battlegroup rules and people have used everything from 6mm to 54mm. Some informal tweaking of the ranges may be better for larger or smaller sizes than 20mm but generally keeping things as they are sesm to work for the 15mm folk.

We played Battlegroup in 10mm/1:144 and in 20mm keeping the same ranges, movement distances etc.. I think the game "feels" better with the smaller scale figures, as there is a better relationship between figure scale and the implied ground scale. The only issue we had was the need to multi base small scale figures for practical reasons, but that was easily overcome.

I with Steamingdave. Have played in 20mm and 15mm and 28mm with o change in ranges/movement. Didn't seem to affect play much, if any. Love these rules!

Per above, ranges are generic and work in any scale. Either 20mm or 15mm would be ideal. Western Desert is good for 15mm and 20mm would work for Western Europe as the battlefield is more closed in.

I game in 28mm in Europe. I can have a Bolt Action sized scenario (platoons) at Battlegroup ranges. If I had to start all over I would do a smaller scale as I could use vehicles. But you are already at the sweet spot.

Thank you for the help everyone. It appears that one does not need to make manual recalculations for scales that are different than 20mm. The values for ranges, movement, etc., published using inches is good for all scales.
