Who else is out there besides Litko? Nothing against them, just seeing what is out there. I had a local guy, but his business went belly-up.

Do people in the US still order from Warbases in England? Wondering if postage makes them cost-prohibitive now.

There is a U.S. company that sells them at Historicon every year that I have been there, and I always buy some from them. Cannot remember the name of the company now! Somebody help me out.

My understanding the Battlefront/GF9 vendor who shows at HMGS conventions (Historicon in particular) only sells bases at conventions they exhibit at. Its always a rush to fill your chinese takeout container from the big bin of bases since once the sizes you want are gone, they're gone.

Hey Joe

Warbases are a Scottish based company but will be happy to post products across the 'pond'. They will offer the best postage rates available.

I sometimes use the phalanx consortium out of Williamsburg, VA. He is really easy to deal with and I was able to request specific-sized products.

Gamecraft minis sells mdf bases and I thought Litko did as well?

I also buy them from and recommend THE PHALANX CONSORTIUM.

I buy them off of Amazon.com. Search on MDF bases, or put in your preferred sizes, in millimeters, in front of the "MDF bases," and you should find some options.

You will also see thin plywood bases in the mixture of results. Just ordered 100 x 50mm squares, 3mm-thick wood, delivered for $11. USD Thanks for the reminder!

I paint on PVA Glue, then add sand to them, for texture. Been using these for several years, without any warping, or other issues. Same results with actual MDF bases from Amazon vendors, as well. Cheers!

I just bought from Warbases. Shipping was about 80% of the order but their prices are fair and the options are amazing. A lot depends on what you need and what the vendor makes. I bought rounds, slotted rounds, ovals and rectangles.

Phalanx Consortium. They were at Cincycon and run a $5.00 USD bag for anything that will fit in it. I bought MANY packs!

Thanks

John

Saw your video on sand bases. Here are my versions of sand bases: Green Sand #1 + Green Sand #2 + Model RR Ballast, in pan; applied to 28mm Lion bases; applied to 25mm historical bases showing comparison to same base with just green paint; Green sand mixture and red-brown sand mixture, applied in patterns, to larger MDF bases for 54mm Army Men, Barbed Wire sections, and plants.

I paint the bases with full-strength Wood PVA Glue, in sections on larger bases, to create the mottled colors for the red-brown and green sands. For the smaller figure bases, I just use the pan of Green sand mixtures + Model RR Ballast. Best thing about this technique? No painting required… Cheers!

Another vote for Warbases. They do custom bases too

I also recommend Warbases. While postage has increased over the past couple of years, it is not, in my opinion, prohibitive. My last order was for just over £116.00 GBP and the postage was £45.00 GBP The postage is, as I recall calculated based on weight and the parcel was pretty heavy, so I did not find it to be excessive -- and they use a courier service so the delivdry time was very good.
