Are there 'full hull' models of Cold War, (Or Falklands?), British, Russian, Argentine or USN Nuclear or Diesel/Electric submarines in about 1/1250 scale? Having re-read the old 80s John Wingate novels, (Frigate, Carrier, Submarine), it occurs that full hull subs on adjustable 'flight stands' as in air wargames… might be interesting. One could even include a 'surface' plastic level to a table for ASW ships / Helos! Just curiosity, really… but sure someone will have tried it! |

Hmm. Found Full Hull Typhoon in resin but would want RN 'O's', 'S's' and Russian Hunter Killers similar. auction |

Try the Con Sonar group on Facebook. Fun rules. I do subs in 1/700. |

eBay for some, and Shapeway for others. |

There are quite a few in 1/700. Its the scale I use for my sub vs. sub games |

If Shapeways is an option for you, you might want to check out Bill's Bits n Pieces shop. link He does full hull subs in different scales (along with other things). There is also OKB Grigorov, which makes resin sub models in 1/700 and 1/1200 scales. link |

I use Shapeways for all of my own Submarine needs. |

Testers did a bunch in 1/700 I think |

Testors did, but they go very pricey when you can find them. Some on eBay now. |

Thanks for the suggestions, Chaps. 1/700 bigger than I had intended. Maybe. 1/2400 smaller… but some possibles. Might try some. Did attempt to order an item fron OKB Gregorov… but came up with no shipping… I am UK. I was thinking about late 1970s – mid 1980s. RN vs Russian. Thanks, anyway… will keep an eye out… and consider. |

Montfort apparently made full hull 1250 subs. They're no longer in production, but there are 5 on ebay from Germany. There's a 6th if you widen the search to drydock. |

Cheers, Exeter! So I will now soon have Typhoon and Resolution SSBNs… 'and never the twain shall meet!' lol. (Wonder whether… if they had ended up in same patch of water… they might have engaged? Rather doubt it, but…). I will have to keep looking for Brit / Russian hunter-killers or O class. |

If an SSBN on patrol detected another vessel they'd turn and sneak away as quietly as possible. You don't risk nuclear deterrence for a single kill. That said, if that's what you have to use then by all means, have at it. I'd consider giving them attack sub capabilities instead of SSBN, at least until you have some attack subs. |

Have a Shapeways Akula on order. More advanced than I would like…but that may be realistic! Why are there so many Waterline Modern Sub models? Great for dioramas, but of what possible use, otherwise? WW2… surface for Gun action or battery recharge / air replenishment… but Nukes? If surfaced, nothing more than a target! |
Murvihill | 23 Dec 2021 6:12 a.m. PST |
I use waterline subs to indicate what is detected. If it isn't detected a marker goes in the general vicinity instead. |
Heedless Horseman | 23 Dec 2021 9:29 a.m. PST |
Murvhill.. yes, ok. But a Full Hull model, on a stand, could indicate detected, Submerged? If available. I'm getting TOO interested in this! LOL! |

If you are looking to print your own, Thingiverse has quite a few and you can then adjust to whatever scale you wish. Anyway, that's what I did. |
