Hi Guys. Does anyone have any opinions on these rules? That's the ones produced by the Fire and Fury people not Flames of War.

They've been around for a long time but I don't know how good they are and I haven't looked at many battle reports.

They are quite good.

I believe they are better than the FOW rules, but for some reason seem to have less of a following – probably mass marketing at work, in my humble opinion.

there are not too many reports or AARs online about these rules. I have them and I like them. One rulebook that covers everything and it includes cards for Germany, Russia, US and CW units/vehicles. Included was a nice QRS for the players. There are 3 expansion card sets one for the early war cards with France and a desert set with Italy which are sold separately and include various country units not in the original set. All are nice quality and the rulebook has play examples and detailed picture explanations.
The rules are D10 based, very intuitive and easy to pick up and give a good game. It's an IGoUGo system but I house rule a card activation for each maneuver element.

Thanks for the insights chaps. It's given me more food for thought.

I played FOW to death when it first came out but it's faults have ensured that I'm playing other things these days. I think that the marketing has helped it but it's also similar to GW type games so may provide a gateway for GW fantasy/SF gamers. Mind you Bolt Action does the same thing IMHO.

I have the rules and read through them. I'd do 6mm vs 15mm with them though b/c I don't have 15mm. What I read I liked but if someone is playing FoW for "quick don't have to think too hard" then IMO they would not jump to Battlefront's rules. Not that they are anything super complicated or "Tractics-like" just they read a bit more detailed. Now that it's in my brain I think I'm going to revisit them and give it a go, got all the supplements.

Good solid rules.

As for the expansion cards, all are available in their card tool to export as PDF, this includes updates to the original as well as other forces in WW-II, Cold War and Arab-Israeli Wars

Same for TO&E information, huge amount freely availible

Very good, especially in 6mm. Tons and tons of material available at the F&F web site, including OOBs and rules to translate BF into modern combat.

Great set of rules but is been about 15 years since I had a game.

Irish Marine17 Dec 2021 5:18 p.m. PST

We play them in our group and I even got the group to do Arab Israeli wars, Vietnam, and 1980's Cold War gone hot.

Excellent set of rules. Probably the best melding of infantry, armour and artillery in any set of WW2 rules. There are many, many scenarios, OBs, and battle reports over at fireandfury.com.
Play reasonably quickly and give very good results.

There are actually loads and loads of battle reports for this game, all linked right there on their website:

I recommend starting with Bill Slavin's AARs; those are some of my favourites.

The game is superlative, easily the best battalion-level game to date (and yes, I am including the recent entries in that estimation). It plays extremely dynamic, with formations charging forward and falling back, and allows for very thoughtful positioning and maneuvering choices when formations get stuck in. I could not recommend it more.

Oh I smiled when reviewing this thread. Battlefront rules were the first set of rules I bought for WWII and are what got me into the 15mm scale. I can't remember where I put the rules and data cards, but this thread is a great motivator to go find them, reread them and get my sons to play a game with me now that they are old enough.

Thanks for this posting!

One of the best set of rules I have played, I play in 6mm but use the 15mm ground scale. Started by playing a couple of the I – introductory size scenario's to get use to the game style and have built up to the M – Medium size games.

Chimpy18 Dec 2021 1:28 p.m. PST

Actung Minen I completely missed those on their website. Thanks I'll have a read of them.

Wargamer Blue is there any particular reason not to have had a game for 15 years or are you a victim of new shiny syndrome? (I'm a great offender)

CCmatty my pleasure.

Martian Root Canal20 Dec 2021 8:52 a.m. PST

They are my go to rules set for WW2. Probably the best set out there for combined arms actions (infantry, artillery/air and armor). What I love about them is a) the data cards; b) the morale mechanics which actually makes units stop or run away – I have played other sets where you 'kill' tons of stands instead; and c) the spotting mechanics which make you use recon elements as such.

Wargamer Blue20 Dec 2021 5:13 p.m. PST

Definitely shinny syndrome for me. In all honesty my favourite game is Crossfire and I have not played that in years.
