Last weekend a group of wargamers who meet regularly in London staged a refight of the opening clashes of the Battle of Jutland using 1:12ooth-scale models. The rules used were a modern version of Fletcher Pratt's Naval War Game rules. It was by far and away the largest naval wargame I have ever taken part in, and is probably the largest staged in the UK for many years. To read a battle report go here = link link link link link |

Very nice. The knee pads were required equipment. Wolfhag |

It looks amazing! Love the idea of golf tees as shot markers! |

It does look amazing. Haven't played Fletcher Prat on a gym floor in almost 50 years. |

I don't understand… where's the big gaggle like tangled mass of ships pointing in every direction in the middle of the battlezone after a couple turns? Kidding. Nice pics to look at. Would love to have been there. |

My one claim to fame in Jutland terms is that I took part in a refight on the floor of an ice cream factory back in the 70's. Ice cream factory, you couldn't make it up. |

@Jim – if it had been North Cape it would have made sense :) |

How did you measure range? I have an empty three car garage I could set up in, nice. Wolfhag |

We used laser measures, which make things a lot easier when the ranges can be up to 20 feet. |

This has to be doable in the US. It's the kind of game I would have expected to see at Navcon in Milwaukee, while that was still going. There were definitely some smaller Fletcher Pratt style games the few times I attended. I think I'd be dead before I could acquire all the painted 1/1200 ships for this, but I'm not far from being able to do it in 1/2400. |
