"The term "Redneck" is, at the time of writing this review, ambiguous at best. Certain cultural groups consider that a name to be worn with pride while others consider it derogatory. It's origins lie in the division of workforce/working classes (necks red from sun because of working outside) but there is a strong tendency to assign this name to the inhabitants of Southern States in United States of America. This is also what the box suggests, adding Confederate colours to the name. Given that the producer is from Ukraine one could probably expect a set of clichés regarding these states' inhabitants, particularly from poor and rural regions. Knowing their earlier products one also might expect some popular culture references…"

Most of these figures carry modern weapons and are unsuitable for ACW games. |

These minis would be great for "Zombie Apocalypse" survivors. |

From the Review… "…The poses described allow for creation of some interesting dioramas, from modern to Wild West. The detail is very good with different facial features. Most of the men sport a beard, often a spectacular, ZZ-Top-style one. Many figures wear some kind of hat, from Stetson to baseball cap. They differ in sizes – some males are shorter then the female – and in build. Overall they represent a lot of modern individuals pretty accurately, not only southern US states citizens…."

Insulting name, true. Hopefully will not set off a riot. Useful miniatures though. |

The term "Redneck" is not from the American Civil War. It was a term used for the unionized coal miners of West Virginia fighting against the company men who were trying to keep the unions out the mines 1919-1921. The necks were red -- in this case, because the miners wore red kerchiefs around their necks. "Redneck" is only derogatory to people who don't know where it came from. For someone who works for a living and remembers what happened it is an honor to be called a redneck. A good movie to illustrate this conflict is "Matewan": imdb.com/title/tt0093509 Here is some info on the Battle of Blair Mountain to get you started: link Now if you want to put a skirmish wargame together this whole mess would make an excellent subject. I doubt an assault rifle was part of the available firepower at the time. |

I just moved to TN. My neighbors use "red neck" as a term of endearment, no offense taken. Wolfhag |

K-while I don't doubt your explanation more generally the term originates with farm workers having sunburnt necks and means rural people, not necessarily from the south. The negative implication is that they are less educated, more racist and superstitious than urban people; none of which strikes me as being particularly true. |

I think I seen the term used to describe boers in southern Africa from the 1700? I also believe the term is used in Australia as well. My understanding has been that it degrades subsitance farms who are always loking at the ground. |

Wolfhag, Redneck is a derogatory term chiefly, but not exclusively, applied to white Americans perceived to be crass and unsophisticated, closely associated with rural whites of the Southern United States. Its meaning stems from the sunburn found on farmers' necks dating back to the late 19th century. Just because some people use it as a term of endearment doe not mean the term should be used. Would you say the same about the n-word? Hopefully not. I hear that word used as a term of endearment also and it is still wrong to use it. |

Redneck is a derogatory term and should not be used. It is the product name. Those who object should take it up with the manufacturer. |

That is a real nice set of armed working class men. The shiny tan plastic hide the detail. With some paint they look real good. Have them on my paint desk now. All 4 modern sets of "Dark Dream studio" are nice, very usefull for near future games. |
