"It would be "inconceivable" for Australia not to join the United States should Washington take action to defend Taiwan, Australian Defence Minister Peter Dutton said on Saturday (Nov 13).

On Wednesday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the United States and its allies would take unspecified "action" if China were to use force to alter the status quo over Taiwan.

"It would be inconceivable that we wouldn't support the US in an action if the US chose to take that action," Mr Dutton told The Australian newspaper in an interview…"

The ANZACs always show up for a fight !!! 👍👍 Hopefully a war over Taiwan will never happen… at least anytime soon.

Regardless, Don't think the PRC/CCP will do anything until after the Olympics. If then ?

Words spoken by politicians tend to be malleable, so "inconceivable not to do take action if" is really, really soft. I'll believe them when they have troops stationed there. The US has, apparently, two dozen troops there. Australia has none as far as I know.

Still, this is good news.

"And, again, I think we should be very frank and honest about that, look at all of the facts and circumstances without pre-committing, and maybe there are circumstances where we wouldn't take up that option, (but) I can't conceive of those circumstances." He continued with this. So – maybe we will and maybe we won't. emckinney – great.

It IS wonderful to have such reliable allies.

A pity we are NOT as reliable as our Australian cousins, but I blame that on our "leadership" and not our citizens.

Yea, China definitely won't do anything until after the Olympics, which in my opinion should be canceled for cause.

Our current CiC says we will defend Taiwan, but he also said we wouldn't abandon Americans and our allies in Afghanistan, so Taiwan should be very nervous over our reliability to support them militarily if they are attacked.

"It would be "inconceivable" for Australia not to join the United States should Washington take action to defend Taiwan,"

The "action" will be to co-sign the strongly-worded and disapproving letter that will be sent to the CCP. Maybe even chip in a little for the postage…

I read that with a lot of wiggle room.
