Anyone out there playing Sharp Practice with slightly larger units, say 8-10 vs 6 for skirmishers and 12-14 vs 10 for line? Does the game get unwieldy with shock count taking longer to have effect and probable kills going up as the units last longer?

Hmm, first thoughts are that units will carry more shock, so will tend to stop advancing, but keep fighting much longer. Given that you can make formations of multiple groups already, I'm not sure what you would gain.

Depends on basing. Mine are not single based so this is of interest for me.

I share TNLG opinion, my figures are based with 6 figures per base so I would like to use two bases for a unit.
At first sight I don't think it could be a problem because while shock is given to larger units, those units are bigger and then causing more damage.
Besides I would like to hear other people opinion.

I hadn't considered that as a reason, Sharpe. So a couple of options:
1) Try it and see. It might well work! The balance in the number of skirmishers per unit might be something you would have to work at.
2) Treat a 2 element (12 figure) group as being of normal size, and a base as having 4 notional figures less any casualties. Requires a bit of mental gymnastics but perhaps not too many. Melee is on the basis of at least half the group or less than half, so easily managed; firing would be eight dice – casualties.

Perhaps number of bases could be used, instead of number of figures? So six bases could count as 6 figures, and then there is the leader.

Thank you Advocate for your good points.
1) Agree about the fact that if a unit is of 12 figures a group of skirmish could be one third bigger thus 9;
2) Agree with you again about the mental gymnastics :-) and this is one of the reason why I play SP2 only with part of my collection (the one single based) leaving my Napoleonic collection sadly out of this fantastic game.
