Made some progress on my CVBG though I still need to get a couple more things from Navwar (like a Garcia class FF and a Newport class LST). Sea bases still need gloss varnish but I'm nearly done.

Ships: 1/3000 Navwar, Planes: 1/1200 Cap Aero, deck decals: flightdeckdecals2400, bases: warbases in the UK

A wonderful setup named for a dedicated man that had such a sad and tragic ending…

That's really nice. I spent '80-'83 on the JFK so it brings back some memories of life in a CBG.

Very nice. What rules will you use?

Looks wonderful.
Great minds think alike. I literally have the exact same set up! Except I added decals from from Flight Deck Decals.

Cheers guys, thanks for the comments.

Murphy – I'll admit I didn't know the man behind the name but now I do I'll be treating my carrier with the respect it deserves.
Lascaris – possibly the most sincere complement that can be paid – thank you matey.
Cardinal – I use my own rules, 'Danger Zone', which me and the boy enjoy. I'm still drafting for publication, but it's a long slog!
Kevin – cheers! Great minds indeed – more so because the deck decals are from Flight Deck Decals; I just write flightdeckdecals2400 because that's their web address. The carrier decks are a sod to apply but well worth the effort, and the helo decks on the CGs, DDGs and FFGs really make the models complete.

Henry and I will probably be having a game on Saturday, US v. Libya circa 1986 – I've got some Osas, Nanushkas, Combatante IIs and even some MiG-25s – really looking forward to it.

Very nice Nick..looking forward to some game reports.

Is there a set of rules where the Carrier Group remains stationary (for the most part, screening assets such as ASW and search can move around) in a set of concentric circles further divided into zones and during the course of the game counters incoming threats?

Cheers Boggler, I'm looking forward to playing. We've got our biggest action yet on Saturday with the gloves off from the start: A SEAD mission in the Gulf of Sidra. I've got my CVBG and Henry will have a Vosper Type 7, a Nanuchka, 3 Osa IIs, 4 MiG-25s and a regiment of long-range SAMs – I think it's going to be carnage.

But I have the whole Carrier Wing 6 :)

Cardinal – that's a really interesting idea, especially for 'blue water' CVBG actions. The way you describe it, it could be played on multiple smaller tables… BIG actions could be played with some real fog of war.

I seem to remember that the WW2 fleet rules 'Battlestations! Battlestations!" uses multiple tables for Pacific actions with the emphasis on 'find, fix, strike'.

Your idea introduces another level – really interesting…

I tired very quickly of the modern rules that always ended up being missile exchange exercises, so I made up a set where 1"=10 nautical miles and a turn is 8 hours. They work pretty good but haven't been play tested enough.

Bozkashi Jones05 Nov 2021 9:29 a.m. PST

Murvihill – that sounds fascinating; you could play the entire Falklands War on a 6'x4' table!

I'd be interested to see any more you have on those.

You can fit the entire Med on a 15*6 foot table. if you want a copy of the rules email me at [my name above]6303 at att dot net.
