Who does the best metal figures for German infantry in 1943 – 44? By this I mean figures in M43 jackets and ankle gaiters. The Warlord figures are good but a bit chunky (and mostly plastic). Any recommendations?

What size/scale ?

Artizan, small range, but quite chunky to.

Sorry, should have said, 28mm. Artizan are chunky but good. However, most are in smocks though the zeltbahns are useful.

Have you looked at the Perry Miniatures WW2 range – they are Afrika Korps but most of the metal figures are in helmets and not wearing the long lace-up desert boot or jackboots.

Perrys are a good option. The basic kit on the grenadiers' backs is minimal but can be added to easily. They are not wearing the gaiters but I assume that can be modelled.

Was it Battle Group used to be pretty well what you descrkibed, but another case of what ever happened to the line?

Battle Group would have been almost spot on but, as you say, where are they now?

The best options if you don't want the proportions of an orc dressed up in WWII uniforms would be the Perry metals with a little modification. I did this with an xacto and a little green stuff. If you want latter German figures for say 1944-45 them I'd recommend Paul Hicks sculpts over at Empress Miniatures.

Otherwise, switch over to 20mm or 15mm for WWII. This is what I finally did and I'm much happier for it. :)

Well, there are nearly thirty manufacturers of 28mm WW2 Germans listed here. Some of them must fit the bill…

Perrys seems to be the way ahead. However, (thanks to Cerdic) I will work my way through that list and see what comes up. Thanks to all.

Try Victory Force Miniatures. Has several German lines. Figs sold as individual or packs. There is a hand feature where they have no hands and you pick the weapon or gear. Good way to get pioneers. They are all metal but more on 30mm really. Nice models.

Not come across Victory Force Miniatures before. They look really good. Sadly, very very few in anklets. The vast majority seem to be in early war high boots. So close …

that's a great list Credic. I found the link very useful
