"During WW2, Germany had a small unit of Japanese soldiers serving in its army. This is the story of the 'Japanese Legion', believed by many to have been a myth…until now." YouTube link Armand |

Yes, as noted in the link, the Germans also had an "Indian Legion" of Indian Army POWs that changed sides. link There were also Indians captured, etc., by the IJFs in the PTO who became the Indian National Army within the Japanese Army. link |

The amount of Indians who fought for the Japanese was much huge than the Germans… and they actually really fought… Armand

Oh yes … the Indian National Army was about 5 Rgt's worth … see the link I posted. And they did fight against their former "Ally" the UK, in the CBI. |

The INA fought for two reasons. One was they faced years of Japanese POW captivity and guess how that would have ended. The other was the Free India movement, under Subhas Chandra Bose, who is still seen as a liberation hero in many parts of India to this day. He appears on stamps, he has a memorial day. It is forgotten that the Japs would hardly have imposed a beneficial "Co-Prosperity Sphere" on India after conquest. But every country has its independence movement hero, however flawed. Mine does for sure. |
