India's looking to buy S400 SAMS from Russia. These are the same systems that got Turkey into hot water and that whose sale has also caused sanctions against China. Other Indian deals with Russia include warships and nuclear submarines and as well as additional Mig-29 and Su-30 fighters. America has given India access to same technology as NATO but the Indians convolute the issue by continuing to buy Russian. link |

India needs to settle what kind of military they want and build it instead of the hodgepodge they have. Quick perusing of Wikipedia indicated the following suppliers for their military: domestic, Soviet Union/Russia, Israel, South Korea, France, UK, US. Logistics would be a nightmare in a conflict unless I'm crazy |

So glad our aid money isn't being wasted on things like starving children |

India needs both the US and Russia as allies if China gets nasty. Also probably getting better deals with the Russians. |

If they are used to maintaining and using Russian equipment then it makes sense to continue that plan. India put out a statement years ago, early 2000s, that they weren't the US's "man" and would diverge from the US when India felt it was right to do so. PaulB – that's the job for people who watch TV and "for $19 USD/month you too can . . ." Why expect a government to do something like that? <sarcasm alert> |
