So question to all the military types: does ground support for 160th qualify as "spec ops"?
Based on ? You guys watch too many Chuck Norris, Arnold, Sly, etc., movies … Note … News Flash – those are not reality. 😯
OK guys … get this … this was an Army Aviation unit practicing/training air to air refueling with the USAF. Note in many cases, in training that does not require weapons to be issued … they are Not. That was my experience being a Rifle Plt Ldr and Mech Co. Cdr. Hell …
I'd rarely even issued bayonets ! My guys carried enough of their own knives, etc., even a tomahawk or two, anyway.
These guys in the 160th are some of the best chopper jocks in the world. They took the SEALS to get UBL, and that is only one example.
Well, when unarmed against even an untrained attacker wielding a katana, retreat does seem like an excellent idea, regardless of what the Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan movies seem to indicate.
Yes, logic & reason tells you … you can't take on a nut job with a sword if you are unarmed. Unless you do a lot of action movies and it is all staged.
If so it doesn't make the community very scary.
Don't say that to an Infantry type Spec Ops guy … Note: Many Spec Operators jobs is basically Infantry work. Very intense infantry work. That includes Rangers of course, Green Berets, SEALs, USMC Recon, etc.
Note the term SOAR denotes it's mission as well … Like an Attack Helo unit or Fighter Squadron, etc.,…
Even saying that to one of my guys in my Rifle Plt or Mech Co. wouldn't have been a very good idea.
Has anyone here ever take on someone with a knife ? In Panama, when I was a 1LT, a couple of locals tried to jump my CO and I. We were in civies but with our short hair and being fairly well muscled, in good shape, etc. They chose poorly … My CO was a black belt, so his attacker didn't fare well.
I just picked the little idiot up and threw him into traffic. Never had the chance to use his little knife. I was a bit disappointed he was not hit by a car, truck or bus. 🙁
Of course they were not "Katana waving Ninjas"🐱🚀…
A pity the troops in training aren't armed with pistols at least.
IMO if they were packing … the Ninja wouldn't have attacked or better yet the Ninja would have been shot … probably repeatedly …
However, again not all training requires you being armed. This was a one off thing anyway. When is the last time anyone has been attacked by someone calling himself a ninja ?
