"There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for. Take a zombie apocalypse for example. That's right, I said z-o-m-b-i-e a-p-o-c-a-l-y-p-s-e. You may laugh now, but when it happens you'll be happy you read this, and hey, maybe you'll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency…."

To prepare for *any* sort of apocalypse you need firearms. Preferably a shotgun, a magazine fed rifle and a pistol. You might also include a break barrel air rifle, as it doesn't require cartridge ammunition and a bow with arrows, if you know how to use one. A strong slingshot could also be useful.

An edged weapon would be useful, even the humble machete.

Also kind of helpful to be able to start a fire

The humble machete is a very useful tool – on the farm I use mine a lot

Couple tubes of Preparation H might be handy. In the long run. How about the formula for some penicillin?

If you're down to edged weapons for protection, you're already dead.
