Does anyone know of any good large scale (50mm or more) insect miniatures? Even as low as 28mm scale is fine as long as the miniatures themselves are large. I need them for a Sci-fi RPG I'm playing.

Thanks.

Remember to figure out biological mechanisms for insect gigantism. The breathing and muscular systems of insects don't scale up well.

There is Wargames Atlantic and their sci-fi spiders.

Not exactly sure what you have in mind.

50mm standing or 50mm circumference?

Around Halloween card and party stores carry carded packs of about 100 plastic spiders for a few bucks. (Not the ones with rings on the bottom). At 28mm they'd be about the size of a car tire lying on its' side.

Dollar Stores all carry cheap bags of animals, including insects. At $1 USD a bag, even if you only get 5 bugs that are useful, you're doing well.

Educational stores (and I think Target) carry the Schleich line, and similar figs from other makers, of various critters including insects. They'd be pretty mega at 25mm, but they require no painting and are quite high quality.

Search Insects in Toys and Games on Amazon.

Agree with HMS. Now is a great time to hit stores for plastic bugs.

More oxygen. A lot more oxygen, which poses its own issues to players…:)

We did that many years ago and had a game where the bugs landed in the midst of a medieval battle. Yum, humans on the half shell!

If it's giant ants that will do, try these--I bought some myself for a planned game and they're big enough to take down any 28mm human: link

Will be buying more of these….

Try craft stores like Michael's for Halloween junk. They should have large spiders etc.
Also look for Toob insects at the same place.

Oh, what a silly thing to be worried about in a sci-fi movie from the 1950s game.
It's like trying to find a scientific excuse for time travel.

I'm looking for larger miniatures like Starship Troopers Warrior Bugs or some similar sized spiders. I want high quality miniatures because I also collect them and occasionally paint/dip them. I looked for the Starship Troopers Miniatures Game Box Set on EBay but it seems overpriced these days.

Should I just get 3D printed resin miniatures off Etsy? Are those any good?

I don't mind spending some money, but I want to get my moneys worth and not overpay for out-of-print miniatures.

The problem is, I can't tell how big miniatures are from online pictures. But I have seen pictures of the Starship Troopers Warrior Bugs next to 28mm human miniatures and the SST Warrior Bugs seem to be the correct size.

Any suggestions?

If spiders are ok wargames Atlantic giant spiders might be the way to go. Hard plastic kits not to expensive.24 different sized spiders in a box and they come with optionals i-fi bits so you can arm them with Ray guns.

CVS has big light up spiders for $2.99 USD.

Remove the suction cups, and possibly repaint, and you are good to go.

They are a few inches across – 3" – 4"?

If you have a local museum try the gift shop, I'm pretty sure schleich and Papo do a toy spider and a scorpion.

Michaels has the Safari Ltd Toob of insects:

I have a different set from several years ago (no butterflies). I put them on 50mm round bases and most are oversize. 28mm figures could ride these.
