Hi,
I want to start a Rheinbund army for black powder.
Would it be possible to do that without buying loads of metal minis? There are two reasons I want to avoid buying lots of metal ones.
1. I'm 15 and metal is more expensive.
2. I'm from Germany, so it's difficult to get minis from the smaller manufacturers.
Any tips?
Thanks!

It sort of depends on which contingents you want to model – for some are so close to French uniforms a differnent paint job is all that's required.
Also, if you say what you're looking I reckon there may be some out there who would be happy to let you have some spare figures to get you started – then it would be a case of buying more from a compatible range. I'm sorry but I do nostalgic old-schoool 20mm or 25mm Napoleonics which I'nm sure is NOT what you're looking for (and I don't do Rheinbund).
Good Luck!

What scale are you considering? 28mm?

If so, go to the Perry Miniatures website, and look (don't buy) at the photos of their Confederation range.

Then consider purchasing plastic figures that resemble some/most of the contingents. When/if your budget allows you can eventually add metal troops wearing the more unique uniforms.

Good luck, and have fun.

I am afraid this is outside my area of expertise, but I wanted to say that it is nice to see young people getting into the hobby. Good luck, young man.

Yes good luck, I was once in your shoes!

On the Rhienbund, you will need a strong constitution as they do not 'rank' as the best troops under many rules. That is because of historical natural bias, but also ignorance of the actual manpower and conditions.

You will need to 'adapt' rules that inherently show this bias.

Facing the same trend I started my Austrian Army of 1805 and apart from the most obvious disadvantages, enjoy using them.

Yes the new plastics are a good place to start, but Perry's will satisfy you most IMO,

Ok, thanks!
Luckily, I won't have the bardin regulations problem. I thought of starting with the Westphalians as they look nearly identical to the late war French. What about cavalry?

Westphalian
Berg
Saxon

Some Confederation regiments, such as Frankfurt and Saxon Duchies

All wear French style uniforms especially if you use campaign dress

I came across the problem that the French fusiliers don't carry those short sabers, but many of the conf fusiliers do.
so if I use Perry 1812-1815 minis the 2nd strap would be missing.
do u know where I can find 28mm Saxon garde du corps?
thanks!

Is it possible to petition Perrys for some 'elite' sprues perhaps to obtain the briquet? May still be costly… doesn't help with shoulder strap unless you create them with aluminum foil, cheers

Victrix keep promising plastic Bavarians.

When they come out, if you have spare shako heads, you'll have a lot of options.

Spare Bavarian heads will give you a start with converting plastic cavalry.

Until then, Wurzburg 1809 – Austrian helmets on French bodies. Wurzburg 1812 – Russian flat-top shakoes on French bodies. Early Baden – Austrian helmets on French bodies.

I wish you all the best with your project.
