PEL is out 50 pages of games. Hobby U coming soon. Wallys Basement. Dealers Hall. Brazilian Steakhouse. Tom Uhl winning another award. It goes on and on. Let's get ready to rumble ………

HMS Exeter15 Sep 2021 10:03 p.m. PST

Time to start heating up the shopping list.

14Bore16 Sep 2021 1:28 a.m. PST

I do have a shopping list, hope they let me go.

Rotundo16 Sep 2021 2:06 a.m. PST

So. I believe this is happening now. My game needs a little polish, but we will be ready.

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP16 Sep 2021 3:34 a.m. PST

If they hold it, I'll be there. But I'm not putting any more time and money into it until they open registration.

Rustycop Retired 201916 Sep 2021 6:21 a.m. PST

Robert this is a positive only thread. Nobody cares if your putting any money or time into it. You are the greatest buzzkill in the history of TMP. No COVID comments No mask comments and No vaccine comments on this thread. Only positive post on the excitement of finally having a convention to attend. Double G when you attend we will dine at the Brazilian Steakhouse. Cliff Brunken is the greatest event coordinator in the history of HMGS.

Bellerophon199316 Sep 2021 6:47 a.m. PST

I love how packed Thursday is … usually that day is light on games.

Brian9816 Sep 2021 7:27 a.m. PST

A note of thanks to all the GMs who sent in events. I also saw some events hosted by students from Yale University. They were recruited through the HMGS Education program, and are part of HMGS Next Generation. Pretty cool.

Rotundo16 Sep 2021 8:29 a.m. PST

Rustycop, COVID……that is all.

robert piepenbrink Supporting Member of TMP16 Sep 2021 9:12 a.m. PST

"You are the greatest buzzkill in the history of TMP."

The competition for that honor is fierce. Should we have a poll?

TSD10116 Sep 2021 10:34 a.m. PST

this is a positive only thread

I'm positive the restrooms will be functional AND properly maintained, unlike some other places we've been to.

Double G16 Sep 2021 11:08 a.m. PST

"Double G when you attend we will dine at the Brazilian Steakhouse."

Only if I get to sit next to War Scipio and USAFPilot.

Rustycop Retired 201916 Sep 2021 11:21 a.m. PST

TSD101 start a thread ranking the restrooms at the convention facilities.

Rotundo16 Sep 2021 2:36 p.m. PST

I once peed on the golf course because the animal dung spread by farmers smelled better than the Host bathrooms, and the walk was the same.

TSD10116 Sep 2021 4:52 p.m. PST

TSD101 start a thread ranking the restrooms at the convention facilities.

The best is up for debate, as the restrooms in downtown Lancaster and VFCC were both well maintained and taken care regularly by attendants if we're going by recent.

smelled better than the Host bathrooms, and the walk was the same.

Didn't you know the elevator by Distlefink served as a emergency restroom?

HMS Exeter16 Sep 2021 5:52 p.m. PST

I remember arriving at Fredericksburg one summer. I'd checked into my hotel and got my badge. It was about 11:45 and they had a con rep guarding the vendor door.

I went to pass the guard, as there was a one-holer just to the left of the vendor doors. The guard challenged me and I explained I was just going to use the bathroom.

The guard says, "Its out of order."

So I says, "What? Already!?"

War Scorpio17 Sep 2021 4:16 a.m. PST

Excellent! I would love to try the Brazilian Steakhouse.

Double G17 Sep 2021 11:53 a.m. PST

Sorry, the Brazilian Steakhouse requires proof of vaccination in order to dine there.

Cardinal Ximenez17 Sep 2021 12:46 p.m. PST

Such a tease …

jefritrout17 Sep 2021 2:16 p.m. PST

I will volunteer to go to Fogo de Chao with y'all with my title of honorary Gaucho. Having lived in Rio Grande Do Sul for a couple of years, I'll regale you with stories and lessons of the Gaucho War of Independence with Bento Gonsalves and Garibaldi (Guerra dos Farrapos).

Rotundo17 Sep 2021 3:28 p.m. PST

Jeez TDS, I always thought that was just hot dog water.

Rustycop Retired 201917 Sep 2021 5:17 p.m. PST

jefritrout no thanks

14Bore18 Sep 2021 7:18 a.m. PST

Still time for this proof of Vax to fall apart, not sure it has hit my area here yet anyway

Dadster Supporting Member of TMP18 Sep 2021 9:55 a.m. PST

What's wrong with proof of vaccination?
We have it up here in N.Y. and it is helping.

Rustycop Retired 201918 Sep 2021 4:54 p.m. PST

14Bore and Dadster no COVID-19 references on this thread. It's on like Donkey Kong.

Dadster Supporting Member of TMP18 Sep 2021 7:54 p.m. PST

I am looking forward to the convention and doing my volunteer bit :)

Rustycop Retired 201918 Sep 2021 9:34 p.m. PST

That's more like it Dadster!

14Bore19 Sep 2021 5:20 a.m. PST

Looked at the lists of games, nothing grabbing me like it's a must. But something there or a pickup game.

WarWizard19 Sep 2021 5:24 a.m. PST

When does registration open?

Disco Joe19 Sep 2021 3:34 p.m. PST

If they have it I will be there. I missed going last year with everything being canceled.

ARMY Strong21 Sep 2021 8:52 a.m. PST

Now that I'm out of TMP jail, the HMGS board will require masks at HISTORICON and may at some point require a vaccine card but not currently.

TSD10121 Sep 2021 11:05 a.m. PST

the HMGS board will require masks at HISTORICON and may at some point require a vaccine card but not currently.

Whats that sound? Ahh, the sound of many GMs cancelling all at once. Curious where you got this information and if its accurate someone from the board needs to step up and post here.

Pyrrhic Victory21 Sep 2021 11:26 a.m. PST

From the email this morning:

This past Sunday was our latest monthly meeting, and the Board reconfirmed that we will follow the mandates and guidelines propagated by Federal, State, and Local authorities and the facilities that we use.

The current CDC guideline is:

"To maximize protection from the Delta variant and prevent possibly spreading it to others, get vaccinated as soon as you can and wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission." (my emphasis)

Montgomery County – where Valley Forge is located – and the rest of Pennsylvania is a "High Transmission" area.

Therefore, the Board approved a mask requirement for all Historicon 2021 attendees while in HMGS-controlled areas; i.e., this does not include the resort's public areas like the hotel lobbies, casino, etc. Anyone not wearing a mask correctly will be asked to put one on. Anyone failing to comply with such a request will be subject to ejection for the remainder of the convention.

We decided that we did not want to, at this time, require a proof of vaccination/negative-test from attendees, to perform temperature checks, or require a personal waiver … but this may change.

Five of us are headed to VFCC. Airline tickets purchased, rooms reserved, just waiting for Registration to open.

I don't care about masks one way or another and I've already gotten both shots and my booster and the flu shot. Headed to France (and Omaha Beach) later in the month so nothing short of cancellation (and that seems unlikely) can thwart me.

TSD10121 Sep 2021 11:54 a.m. PST

this does not include the resort's public areas like the hotel lobbies, casino,

If HMGS con goers are forced to wear masks and regular patrons of the casino, clubs, and restaurants are not there will be massive backlash.

I'm not running a game while forced to wear a mask so I will probably rescind my game.

Pyrrhic Victory21 Sep 2021 12:20 p.m. PST

HMGS doesn't control the public & casino space, so not sure it's fair to get angry at the board over that. Right now, the board is proposing to follow CDC guidance which exceeds what the locality has mandated.

Rotundo21 Sep 2021 12:23 p.m. PST

Pyrrhic Victory, read it again.

Rotundo21 Sep 2021 12:31 p.m. PST

The State of Pa does not require masks
Montgomery County does not require masks
Valley Forge Casino does not require masks
HMGS requires masks, and waited until the PEL was released. They did not know ten days ago about this? It is dishonest. If they wanted masks, fine, but you mention it BEFORE we all put in our games. Now, I am put in a position where I simply do not want to wear a mask all day, but I am already committed. Committed to possible players, committed to my group. Now I get to carry 10,000 troops thru a hotel with a mask on. Set up with a mask on. Run a 5 hr game with a mask on. Talk over 12-20 players with a mask on. This is not fun, and I could have assessed that fairly ten days ago.

14Bore21 Sep 2021 12:38 p.m. PST

Masks and I'm going, won't appreciate it as 8 hrs might be limit, and you have to eat and drink at some point.

Rotundo21 Sep 2021 12:47 p.m. PST

14thbore, I live in Delco, am I missing something?

Pyrrhic Victory21 Sep 2021 12:53 p.m. PST

Rotundo-

I did read it. You are correct that neither the State, locality or venue is requiring masks. The board is following current CDC guidelines, not what anyone has mandated.

The board had three options:

1- go with what the state, locality and venue mandate. (Business as usual)
2- go with what the CDC recommends as a minimum (masks)
3- go with what would maximize attendee safety (vaccine/test requirement)

I don't envy them as they are going to lose some number of folks regardless of which option they picked. I suspect that this will just Bleeped text off those that preferred option 1 and won't be enough for those that wanted option 3 to attend

rampantlion21 Sep 2021 12:53 p.m. PST

Just cancelled my reservation. Not going to wear a mask all day. I'll stay home and game with friends. Not mad at anyone just not interested in participating if masks are mandatory.

Pyrrhic Victory21 Sep 2021 12:54 p.m. PST

Lol amazing what gets auto bleeped around here. Read bleep off as "annoy" then…

TSD10121 Sep 2021 1:02 p.m. PST

HMGS requires masks, and waited until the PEL was released. They did not know ten days ago about this? It is dishonest.

That sums up my feelings. What was the point about asking us if we were going to require attendees to our games to wear masks?

This does nothing for the safety of con goers when the other hundreds of people in the casino can walk around maskless.

Rotundo21 Sep 2021 1:43 p.m. PST

PV, what I am mad at is. I signed up to run a big game. Big, good content (I think). Then, after the PEL is out, and I talk about my game with players. They institute this mask business/ Ya didn't know ten days ago? This makes it much harder for me to tailor my game, cancel my game, and AND! it is dishonest. They knew the whole time they would do this. I have no doubt in my mind.If they were honest from the door, they would have lost some content, yes. But I wear masks all day at work. I am not paying them to wear them. I will just stay home. I got the Pfiser shots, did all that was asked. This is a lie at its strongest, a with-holding of the truth at least. I tried talking about it on the HMGS Facebook site, twice I had posts locked. If you agree though, guess what? you're good. Petty and small. I would never shut down dissent I may not entertain it, but I would not stifle it. They did allow me to keep my post on thier site, so. I must be honest.

Rotundo21 Sep 2021 1:50 p.m. PST

TSD, thank you for actually reading my gripe. Most people just keep throwing stats at me and act like I took part in the Jan 6th riot. Thank you for getting this isnt about cotton fabric, this is about moral fabric.

Pyrrhic Victory21 Sep 2021 2:12 p.m. PST

I'm less sure they knew what their position would be 10 days ago. I suspect there are significant disagreements within the board itself on this.

I absolutely agree that the board should have laid out criteria for different actions earlier. For example, what conditions would trigger a Vax mandate? Setting that out ahead of time would be valuable.

I didn't submit s game this year because of this very uncertainty

TSD10121 Sep 2021 3:02 p.m. PST

From the e-mail.

We decided that we did not want to, at this time, require a proof of vaccination/negative-test from attendees, to perform temperature checks, or require a personal waiver … but this may change.

This really isn't fair and should be decided now. The con is a month and a half away. I'd like to know if I can just cancel now and forget the whole thing and plan something else.

Rotundo21 Sep 2021 3:30 p.m. PST

PV, nothing has changed. They knew ten days ago. What I find funny is, I live in the next county south of the site. The state may very well do this anyway for the Holidays. They never would have had to be the "bad guys".

Dadster Supporting Member of TMP21 Sep 2021 8:21 p.m. PST

They do say 'this may change'. Or am I seeing a mirage?
