I've been reading up on BBBs and it has nothing but great reviews so far.

One thing I haven't been able to discern is how basing would look for French & Prussian 1870 era Brigades?

Trying to get an idea of how many minis I'd need for a Battle of St Privat scenario before I start buying minis.

Thanks for any info.

there is a document listing the base counts for the various scenarios either on the BBB IO groups website or the FB group. All the bases are 1" squares with as many or few figures as you like in Fire & Fury style brigades of 2-8 bases.

Thanx Stecal, I'll check out the IO group.

For the uninitiated, this would be one base equaling a brigade?

Got a link?

one base is usually 1000 men or a battalion. Brigades usually run 4-6,000, so 4-6 bases

Units can be any size. I wasn't going to try The rules because of the multi base Fire and Fury style units. Then I read in the rules that the basing and number of stands was flexible. Now I am all in!

Thanks

John

Thanks very much for the nice comments and interest in BBB.

The groups.io site is here:
groups.io/g/bloodybigbattles
FPW files folder is here:

As Stecal said, there is a spreadsheet showing how many bases you need for all the scenarios in the rulebook:
PDF link
There are also more free scenarios in the FPW folder. Coulmiers is good as a smaller 'training scenario' to learn the rules; likewise Beaune-la-Rolande.

It is feasible to play it with brigade bases (changes in frontage are not a huge deal), but you will need a way to track casualties as well as formations (of which there are three: Line, Depth, Column of March).

As David (Nashville) says, since the scenarios are geared towards smaller scales, you will probably need to increase the ground scale = table size, movement distances and ranges by x1.5 or x2 for 28mm, but it can be done – David's gorgeous games prove it!

I hope this is helpful. Happy to answer any further questions about BBB.

Thanks Chris.. this can be done in 28,, increase scale 1.5 and have a larger board. but wow-- it does produce an amazing game.
